Warriors, one of the most popular classes and yet amongst the most difficult to level properly. Any given guide can recommend numerous different methods of speeding your leveling up, however rather than beat around the bush, I'll just tell you exactly what I do - but first, let's talk about warriors in general.

Warriors are, when handled properly, one of the greatest mass murderers of WoW, boasting massive burst and sustained damage levels which, when combined with heavy armor, allows them to become a one-man wrecking crew.

That said, the sad truth is that a large number of the very warriors you see attempting to level, PvP, farm, etc. are simply doing it wrong. Whether it be talent build, gear, or simply incorrectly using abilities, the end result is a needless waste of the precious little in-game rage for an increasing amount of real-life rage.

Without properly maximizing your warrior, you'll never even begin to approach what you could call a decent rate of experience gain. With warriors you either excel and enjoy your time spent or join the trash heap of sloth-like players - your choice.

However, enough with the dour doomsday prophesizing, let's just avoid door number 2, aforementioned slothly trash heap, entirely and get to the real guide.

Quintessential Killing Machine

Unleash the fury!

What Warriors Want

The theory of slaughter

Starting a warrior is a commitment to either perpetual mediocrity or constant excellence, this key divide is distributed based upon mainly gear as well as talent build.

Fury is the ultimate key to making your warrior a killing machine, at any given time during leveling a well-geared fury warrior can match, if not surpass, an equally or better geared rogue - that's quite an accomplishment.

However, not only do you not possess the abilities such as stealth, spellcasting, healing, you also have to make up for it by a simple strategy of kill or be killed. In almost any situation of battle, when the tide turns you either blast a 30 minute cooldown and possibly achieve victory or... well, die.

Plate armor is woefully unhelpful as a survivability tool, for one it only helps when your opponent does straight up physical damage, meaning casters tear into you much like normal. Additionally you'll only start to really notice the increased mitigation as you stack on the higher quality armor around 50+, prior to that it's not that far from mail in terms of armor value.

So, with such a lacking arsenal of defensive abilities, what can a warrior do? Hit things, really hard, really fast, and hope he doesn't pick up anything more than two monsters in a single fight. This is exactly why you will be picking up solely fury talent tree abilities at least up until around level 40, and likely beyond.

Now, before we move on, I'll let you in on a little secret - ever read about those miraculous arms or protection builds claiming to be efficient at killing? Lies, all of it, unless you happen to be grinding rabbits for a living.

Implementing Excellence

A recipe for death

Alright, you've rolled a warrior, made it through the first ten levels composed only of tears and boredom, when do we get to the fury gig?

Well, quite honestly I'd like to say you could start the moment you began to pick up talent points, but that simply isn't true. All this dual-wield war machine business only starts to set in around level 20, especially since this is when warriors actually gain the ability to, well, dual-wield.

So, you've managed to grind out another 10 rage filled levels, and I don't mean the in-game kind either, what now? Well, this is where the fun starts, at least in my opinion. It's time to suit up and roll out, swinging like a mad man.

Fury is incredibly weapon dependent, armor and the rest of your gear slots can fall behind the curve for whatever reason, but weaponry should be top-notch at all times, otherwise your damage levels stop making up for the extreme miss-rate of dual-wielding.

Rage issues should have been solved the moment you picked up two good weapons. Not only does the fury tree provide an immense amount of rage-support utilities, but the more you swing, the more damage is dealt, the more rage is built to be recycled into more damaging abilities.

As far as stats go, strength will be your primary damage stat from the get-go. Even at level 70 and once you've started picking up the fancy-pants critical and hit rating equipment, more strength is always better.

Talent wise, cruelty is first priority for the lovely 5% critical and therefore overall 5% damage increase it provides, a large amount of fury's later talents require you to critically strike the enemy. Additionally the next truly great talents will be Unbridled Wrath, lots of rage generation, enrage, another good damage talent, and finally the real gem - Flurry.

Once you've maxed out flurry, you should start to feel a bloodlust taking over, the feeling of becoming a juggernaught is truly gained when you charge through entire zones laying waste with chain-criticals and an ever present enrage/flurry buff going.

Finally, as you start to really reach the upper echelons of the furry tree, bloodthirst is an ever helpful attack/heal combination strike as well as providing another button to mash throughout your ability rotation - It should go approximately like this: Charge, refresh battle shout if needed, bloodthirst, spam heroic strike, bloodthirst, spam, etc.

On another note, first aid, learn it, live it, love it. This skill is the true life-saver of any solo class incapable of healing, especially warriors given our previously mentioned lacking survivability.

With that said, it's about time we moved on to the more complicated number games, mainly the balance of damage stats post level 60.

Outland

Furious warriors endgame

Okay, so you've entered Outland, maybe beaten a quest or two, killed a few monsters and picked up a few greens - likely you've found a question burgeoning in your eternally enraged mind, what's with all the new fancy numbers?

Don't worry, I experienced this phenomenon as well, in the end after we've run all our formula's and covered the new item abilities in full, it equates to more damage, more criticals, and of course, more fun.

First, a quick rundown of what you should be finding on any decent fury warrior plate - +Hit, +Crit, high amounts of strength, and possibly some agility/stamina. These are the statistics that will bring you to dominating the grinding fields, stamina will even be missing entirely from several armor pieces, however that's alright as always remember, it's all about kill them before they kill you.

Balancing these stats is the way to go in the long-run, whether on the path to 70 or having already reached the initial goal line, raiding, grinding, PvP, etc. All of these require you walk the fine line of picking up enough hit rating, maintain a high critical%, and have the attack power to back it all up with decent white-damage.

It's really at this level of the game that you begin to develop your own sense of what to do and where you need improvement - However, I'll give you one tip to aid further in this category, check out the Killer Guides Warrior Class Guide, it's a surprisingly useful resource and the only warrior class guide I'd recommend.

Fury warrior gear is not so very prevalent throughout the levels of 60 to around 66, however you can mostly make it by with auction house/random drop greens and a few quest rewards. It picks up at the later levels and definitely allows you to excel for the hardest grinds throughout 68 - 70.

My only advice to you at this point is persevere, beyond the usual tactics for fighting alot of what it takes to truly excel when leveling a warrior is instinct - It's something that grows, knowing when and where to use your abilities at all times to defeat opponents quickly and without losing much life yourself, the key to gaining experience efficiently.
