I'm in the process of buying a new washing machine. I looked for a lens on Squidoo to help me but there wasn't one. So, I decided to document my adventures here.
Helpful Links
Some places worth visiting before making a purchase.
- Consumer Reports
- When looking for something like a washer it doesn't hurt to go to Consumer Reports to see what they say. I've heard people say that it's worth the $30 (or whatever) for the Consumer Reports subscription - but I disagree (at least for washers). Use their free info, consider getting a one month subscription (don't forget to cancel it), but don't jump in for the full year right off the bat.
- Duet Fabric Care System
- Right now the Whirlpool Duet is the leading contender.
- Maytag Neptune
- The Neptune was the leader when they first came out with the front loading washers. There have been some reports of problems but it seems like those have been fixed so if you're buying something new then this is probably a good option.
- Kenmore Elite
- I think Kenmore and Whilpool are made by the same folks. Kenmore is sold by Sears - which can be good or bad, depending on your preferences/experience. Some people report problems with Sears' customer service. I've had pretty good luck with it, although I haven't had to work with their appliance people.
