With reports and rumors floating around that Season 8 will be 24's last season, as well if Tony Almeida will make a return or not, 24 is sure to be full of surprises this year.

Episode 1 of Season 8 on 24, aired on FOX on Sunday January 17th, 2010,as part of a 2-night, 4-hour season premiere of 24. It was titled "Day 8: 4PM to 5PM" and in summary, a happily retired & new grandpa Jack Bauer is unwillingly drawn back into action. As the day unfolds, Jack is drawn into surprises that leave you hanging on the edge of your seats. Day 8 starts off with Jack Bauer preparing to leave New York with Kim Bauer, her fiance and their daughter (Jack's grand-daughter) and they all intent to leave the city the same night for Los Angeles so Jack can live a quiet and peaceful life. However, Jack Bauer is approached by an old friend who informs him that there is a major hit going down on a foreign President who is in the United States of America on a peace-keeping mission. Events quickly unfold and Jack then has to decide whether he stays in NYC to help with the situation or go back to LA with his family.

Episode Summary and Synopsis
Set for the first time ever in New York City, Jack Bauer is reluctantly drawn into action as President Allison Taylor negotiates plans for international security with Middle Eastern leader Omar Hassan.
As the 8th day unfolds, we learn that the upgraded CTU, now operated by the M.B.A.-schooled Brian Hastings, still has Chloe O'Brian, but also expert analyst Dana Walsh and systems analyst Arlo Glass.
Season 8 Casting:
Cherry Jones, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Annie Wersching are the only main cast members from season 7 who will also be returning as main cast members in season 8.
Elisha Cuthbert will once again appear as a "Special Guest Star".
Bob Gunton will be back as Ethan Kanin, but this time as a recurring role and with Kanin as Secretary of State.
Rob Weiss serves as President Allison Taylor's new Chief of Staff.
Meredith Reed is an ambitious journalist with ties to the unfolding situation.
The new CTU is run by the MBA-schooled Brian Hastings (Mykelti Williamson).
Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is a former Marine who wants to follow in Jack Bauer's footsteps and runs the division's Field Operations.
Dana Walsh (Katee Sackhoff) is an expert data analyst who collaborates with systems analyst & drone pilot Arlo Glass inside CTU's New York branch.

The producers have hinted in the past that Jack Bauer might be killed off in the last season of the series and since there is a possibility Season 8 will be 24's final season, do you think Jack will be killed off?

24 Season 8 Episode 1 Review *Spoilers*
Being set in New York, there are several new characters the show has introduced in CTU. These characters are Director Brian Hastings, Dana Walsh, Cole Ortiz and Arlo Glass. Brian Hastings has a different governing style than past directors, he sees things as more straight forward and doesn't really think things through if the situation presents it. Dana Walsh is the lead analyst at CTU New York branch and gets her work done efficiently, but she has a secret past that has yet to be revealed. Walsh is played by Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica. Walsh wants to do anything to keep whatever she has in her past a secret, especially from her boyfriend Cole Ortiz. Ortiz is the head of field operations for CTU, the same position we found Jack in at the beginning of season 1. Ortiz is played by Freddie Prinze Jr and after the first four episodes her is starting to come into his own. Arlo Glass is a drone pilot who uses the machines to prevent any problems but so far that hasn't gone very well.Read more: Spoilertv
