Chuck Bartowski is an affable, anxious Nerd Herd associate at Buy More (a parody of Geek Squad and Best Buy, respectively). He seems to follow a lot of the stereotypes of a generic techno-geek as video games and computer knowledge.

In the Pilot episode, Chuck accidentally downloads the entire CIA/NSA secret database into his brain through an e-mail from old friend/nemesis Bryce Larkin. Both the CIA/NSA computer and Chuck's computer are destroyed, making the information in Chuck's brain unique. The government enlists Chuck to help protect national security after it is discovered that he has the ability to 'flash' on the secret information in his brain. Chuck is protected by CIA agent Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) and NSA agent Major John Casey (Adam Baldwin).

The TV series is based on the weekly missions that Chuck, Sarah and Casey engage in, as well as Chuck's relationships with Morgan Grimes (his best friend and co-worker), his fellow Nerd Herders and co-workers, his sister Ellie (Sarah Lancaster), and her boyfriend (later fiancé) Devon (nicknamed 'Captain Awesome').

Chuck's romantic interests include CIA agent Sarah Walker (who is posing undercover as Chuck's girlfriend) and temporarily Lou (Rachel Bilson), the owner/manager of a sandwich shop. He first met each of them when they came into the Buy More with broken cell phones which Chuck was able to fix. The pilot episode establishes that his last romantic interest was the as-of-yet unseen Jill, a fellow Stanford student who was stolen by his friend Bryce Larkin.

With the exception of his sister, little is known about Chuck's family. It is revealed that their mother left them at some point and that their father was "never really there". No real information about either individual has been revealed.

In the episode "Chuck Versus the Sandworm" Morgan reveals that Chuck has a "wicked vinyl collection" and in the episode "Chuck Versus the Alma Mater" we actually see some of this collection.

In many episodes, Chuck has adopted a fantasy alias, Charles Carmichael, who is endowed with all of the characteristics he believes a super-spy should have, except he doesn't really have the physical abilities to go with the skills. "Imagine Clark Kent removing the eyeglasses, but still wearing kryptonite underwear." Carmichael has been referred to as where Chuck thought he would be by this time in in his life had he not been expelled from Stanford: a millionaire semiretired software magnate.

Sarah Walker (Aliases: Jenny Burton, Katie O'Connell and Rebecca Franco) is a CIA agent who's main job is to protect the Intersect (Chuck). Not much is known about her background due to her being a secret agent. She admitted that her real middle name is Lisa, however Chuck likely didn't hear this because he had walked away. She had an intimate relationship with Bryce Larkin, Chuck's old college roommate, CIA agent, and presumed Intersect. She claims that her most dangerous situation was when she and her sister (unknown) used baby oil instead of sunscreen and received a very bad burn.

Sarah is posing as Chuck's girlfriend, and is revealed to actually have romantic feelings for him. Sarah worked at a hot dog joint called Weinerlicious in Season 1, and a yogurt parlor called Orange Orange in Season 2; the federal government has constructed a high-tech operation center / SCIF in the basement of the Orange Orange.

She has admitted that she is a terrible cook, and says that so they don't have to eat at Weinerlicious, which they do anyway. In episode 4 of season 2, "Chuck Versus the Cougars", it was revealed that Sarah used the name Jenny Burton while attending James Buchanan High School in San Diego, and was recruited to work for the CIA by Agent Graham. According to agent Graham, she used the alias Katie O'Connell in Wisconsin, the alias Rebecca Franco in Cleveland, and that her birth certificate bears yet another name. Her father was sent to prison when she was still in high school, apparently for conning a number of different individuals.

She is particularly skilled at throwing knives, and often wears several strapped to her leg. She demonstrated in "Chuck Versus The Wookiee" that she is fluent in Polish. While in Los Angeles, she resides in a hotel rather than an apartment, as evidenced by the notice posted on the inside of her door. First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez) is Chuck's best friend who also works at the Buy More as a salesman. Morgan, like Chuck, is a video game nerd; however he doesn't share Chuck's computer fixing abilities, claiming "old computers give me the willies." Morgan also has a crush on basically every mildly attractive woman he comes into contact with including Sarah, Ellie, and Anna, whom he later begins dating. He is an incompetent salesman and is nowhere near as smart as Chuck, and it is assumed that Morgan never went to college. Morgan is also incredibly immature, which is shown through the ease in which his feelings get hurt as well as his general demeanor. First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Major John Casey (Adam Baldwin) is an NSA agent, and is one of the agents assigned to guard the intersect. Little is known for sure about his past, and his military uniform has never been shown, but due to statements he makes in the series it can be assumed that he is a former pilot in for the Air Force (as the Air Force is the only branch of the military with access to the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber which he claims to have flown).

As part of his cover he works at Buy More as an appliance salesman, and is apparently quite good at it although he tends to "disregard company policy". His presence there has allowed him to save Chuck's life on more than one occasion. To protect Chuck during the latter's off-hours, he takes an apartment in the same complex as the Bartowskis, which he has retrofitted with surveillance equipment and a decontamination shower.

He previously had a relationship with Ilsa. He rarely smiles, and his pride and joy is his black Ford LTD Crown Victoria. First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Dr. Eleanor Fay "Ellie" Bartowski (Sarah Lancaster) is Chuck's older sister and is a physician. She is engaged to Dr. Woodcomb. Ellie met him at UCLA. First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Dr. Devon "Captain Awesome" Woodcomb (Ryan McPartlin) is Ellie's fiance and a physician. He is referred to as 'Captain Awesome' due to both his love of extreme sports (rock climbing, hang gliding, and "flossing" as Chuck says) as well as his constant use of the word to describe things ("Group hug?... [joins in]... awesome"). First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Lester Patel (Vik Sahay) is a member of the Nerd Herd. In the second season, he was promoted to Assistant Manager of the Buy More, but voluntarily returned to his former position at the end of episode 17. Lester is a self proclaimed "Mac Guy", along with Jeff. Lester tries to be a ladies man, but is very bad at being one. He tried to ask out Sarah the day after Chuck broke up with her. Lester is Jewish, but appears (as evidenced by his by his surname and Big Mike's comments) to be Indian by descent. He scammed everyone playing Dreidel games at the Buy More Holiday Party. His best friend is Jeff, and appears to be the only person with the possible exception of Big Mike, not to be freaked out by Jeff's odd behavior. First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Anna Wu (Julia Ling) works for the Nerd Herd and is Morgan's only real girlfriend throughout the course of the show. She is Taiwanese and is the only East Asian on staff of the Buy More following Harry Tang's departure; and, with Lester Patel, one of the store's only two Asians. Anna is skilled in martial arts, and defended Morgan against all of the Mighty Jock bullies in a cage match in "Chuck Versus the Break-Up". First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Jeffery Barnes (Scott Krinsky) is a member of the Nerd Herd, and according to Lester, is a "Mac Guy", implying he specializes in, and/or prefers, Apple products. He appears to be significantly older than his coworkers, although that could be a consequence of his alcoholism. Jeff is the oddball of the Buy More, and seems to intentionally say and do things that confuse or frighten his colleagues (or at least Chuck). First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Michael "Big Mike" Tucker (Mark Christopher Lawrence) is the manager of the Buy More that Chuck and the other characters work at. He employs a few "classic" managerial techniques in order to keep the store running and himself looking successful such as: taking credit for your employee's successes, blame them for your failures, and work as little as possible ("Get to work!... I've got a nap to take"). Big Mike also had been having an affair with Harry Tang's wife for six months prior to Harry leaving the continent remarking, "I love the Lady Tang", an obvious pun on their surname. First seen in: Chuck Versus the Intersect (Pilot).

Chuck Bartowski is an average computer geek until files upon files of government secrets are downloaded into his brain. He is soon scouted by the CIA and NSA to act in place of their computer.

As Chuck is beginning to adapt to his new life as a spy, a doctor who could possibly "cure" Chuck is murdered. Chuck then begins a high-speed fight for his life, all while trying to decide which of his two new colleagues might be out to get him. Meanwhile, Chuck's sister Ellie invites Sarah to dinner to meet the family.

Chuck needs the help of Morgan and the Nerd Herd to prove that he is ready to become the store's assistant manager. Sarah and John assign Chuck his first undercover spy mission to foil a terrorism plot.

Chuck's latest mission has him raiding a Malibu mansion to grab a million dollar diamond being used to fund terrorism. Tagging along is an attractive but less-than-trustworthy DEA agent.

After his intuition is wrong while working on a stakeout, Chuck feels morally obligated to make things right, even when both Sarah and Casey refuse to help with Chuck's new mission. Meanwhile, Morgan has to participate in a sales competition that could decide his fate at Buy More.

In this Halloween episode Chuck meets a Federal agent just like him: A computer whiz whose brain is important to national security. However, Chuck soon has a personal dilemma arise when he has to decide whether or not to turn the man over to Sarah and Casey or to help him escape his handlers.

Returning to Stanford, the University that expelled him, Chuck has to help a former professor who is a government agent being hunted for a sensitive top-secret file he has in his possession. At the same time, Chuck learns much about himself and about the death of his friend Bryce Larkin.

Chuck must learn to balance a real love life with his cover love life when he meets a charming young woman by the name of Lou. At the same time, his relationship with Sarah gets interesting when the duo must explain their sexual relations with Ellie and Captain Awesome on a double date. Meanwhile, there is trouble when someone is using truth poison in order to retrieve codes for nuclear facilities.

Not all of Sarah's feelings for Chuck may have been a cover, as she finds out, when Chuck begins to date Lou, a sandwich maker. When things couldn't get even more complicated, Lou turns out to be part of a smuggling ring.

Chuck discovers that his former roommate and old nemesis, Bryce Larkin, is still alive, and that a renegade group within the CIA is after the Intersect. Chuck then has to balance helping Bryce return to the legitimate CIA, with the year's busiest shopping day at the Buy More.

While coping with the realization that Sarah still has feelings for Bryce, Chuck must assume his toughest cover yet by going on a mission as Sarah's husband. The team must foil the plot of a politically connected counterfeiter, who may be endangering the lives of Anna, Morgan and Anna's parents. Both Morgan and Anna also find themselves in the cross hairs.

The episode begins with a flashback to the year 2004, where John Casey is involved with a female Russian named Ilsa, who claims she is a photo journalist. Later, in present day, Ilsa returns with a fiancé, named Victor Federov. Things get complicated when it is revealed that Ilsa is a French spy.

Chuck finds a bug in the Buy More, which leads Casey and Sarah to take drastic measures to find out whether the truth about Chuck has been discovered. Whilst facing the possibility that he may have to leave his life forever, Chuck loses something very important- the engagement ring for Ellie entrusted to him by Captain Awesome.

Chuck, Sarah and Casey try to retrieve a vital component for the new Intersect: The Cipher. At the Buy More, the search for the store's Assistant Manager begins. Chuck and Sarah go on their first date. Casey is again instructed to eliminate Chuck as soon as the new Intersect comes online.

Chuck needs to go undercover to seduce a woman named Sasha Banachek, so he an old school spy named Roan Montgomery is assigned as his mentor. Meanwhile, Captain Awesome himself needs some relationship advice, and he gets it from Morgan. Lester faces his first problems as assistant manager: He is not taken seriously by his co-workers.

Bryce Larkin returns to town with news about Fulcrum. They have hired a wealthy software magnet named Von Hayes to decrypt information on a stolen chip containing a refresh to the Intersect with highly classified information. Bryce and Sarah have to pose as a married couple at Von Hayes' dining party to steal back the chip, while Chuck has to pose as a waiter. Meanwhile, Morgan has an encounter with the Mighty Jocks at the Buy More.

Chuck goes undercover at Sarah's 10-year High School reunion, where they meet the girl that tortured Sarah back in the old days.

Life in espionage takes its toll on Chuck (Zachary Levi) and everyone is taking notice. Chuck tries to explain his unusual behavior to Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and to the quirky Buy More efficiency expert Emmett Milbarge (guest star Tony Hale), but a new assignment only complicates things. After a global terrorist comes searching for Jeff (Scott Krinsky), Chuck is forced to socialize with Jeff in order to find out what role the oddball plays in the mission. Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski), Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Chuck are all shocked when they discover that the fate of the world and the prevention of World War III rest in Jeff's hands.

Chuck chances upon his ex-flame (Jordana Brewster) and embellishes his status in life to impress her. But Chuck must get into spy mode upon discovering that her research-scientist boss may be involved in the development of a bioweapon. Meanwhile, Buy More's efficiency expert (Tony Hale) enforces a mandatory CPR course, conducted by none other than Captain Awesome himself.

Chuck and Jill (Jordana Brewster) must put their revived relationship on hold when Chuck is assigned to hunt down shady CIA agents. But there's a personal obstacle: Jill's jealousy grows when she finally meets Sarah. At Buy More, the corporate-efficiency expert (Tony Hale) is hostile toward Chuck and tries to take the Nerd Herder down.

As Chuck deals with a monumental personal betrayal, he's assigned to exploit his relationship with Jill (Jordana Brewster) to smoke out an agent called Leader. Meanwhile, Captain Awesome's parents plan to visit for Thanksgiving, prompting a determined Ellie to cook up the perfect dinner; Morgan stands guard at Buy More on Thanksgiving.

The team is assigned to survey the Global Launch Agency, when intel shows that someone might penetrate their security. During the surveillance someone intrudes the lab who turns out to be Casey's former sensei Ty Bennett. Meanwhile, Captain Awesome's perfect parents decide to pay Devon and Ellie a surprise visit to help them plan the wedding, and Emmett Milbarge introduces an "Employee of the Month" contest to the Buy More, but the employees start their own contest instead.

Sarah's father, a con artist, comes to meet her, revealing that he conned a Saudi Arabian sheik, Rajiv Amad, out of nearly a million dollars. The sheik turns out to be connected to terrorist fundings, so the General wants Sarah and Chuck to gain intel from Sarah's father, but things get complicated when Amad shows up. Anna wants to take her relationship with Morgan a step further and asks him to move in an apartment with her. Devon lends him some money to buy one, but instead, he buys a car.

It's not so merry on Christmas Eve when an amateur criminal raids the Buy More, taking Chuck and the gang hostage. To protect Chuck, Sarah and Casey attempt to storm the store. But they're out of luck with Chuck---he'd rather stay than leave his significant others behind.

Chuck has to protect rock star Tyler Martin, while Morgan wins two backstage passes to Martin's concert, so he needs to decide who will become his "plus one". This is a special 3D episode.

Chuck and Sarah go undercover as a married couple in the suburbs. Meanwhile, Big Mike has to face a divorce, so the Buy More team try to distract him.

Chuck taps into his burgeoning spying skills to help a heartsick Morgan secretly snoop on Anna. But they soon discover that Anna's new boyfriend might be connected to a dangerous gang. Meanwhile, Jeff and Lester pester Ellie to hire their music group---called Jeffster!---as her wedding band.

Chuck's jealousy escalates when Sarah lavishes her seductive charms on a handsome agent in order to collect important intelligence. Elsewhere, Morgan tries to come to terms with his mother's relationship with Big Mike by staying at Chuck's apartment; Jeff and Lester seek a role in hiring Buy More's new employee.

Sarah and Casey are assigned to hunt down an evildoer named Perseus, who is the mastermind behind a villainous organization's plans to build their own Intersect. Meanwhile, Chuck is holed up in a safety bunker with Agent Cole Barker (Jonathan Cake); Morgan tries to talk Anna out of moving in with him.

Chuck locates the scientist who created the Intersect computer that's embedded in his mind. Soon, Chuck experiences a monumental crisis of faith, not knowing whether to put his trust in Sarah and Casey or the mysterious creator. Meanwhile, antagonism builds between the Buy More branch and its stuffy Beverly Hills counterpart.

When Chuck and Sarah's complex relationship is exposed, a cold female agent (Tricia Helfer) is assigned to evaluate Sarah's performance, putting her job in jeopardy. Elsewhere, Morgan and "Jeffster" set out to attend Awesome's bachelor party.

Chuck's life takes fortunate turns: Not only does his long-estranged father (Scott Bakula) return, but Chuck scores a coveted job with Ted Roark (Chevy Chase), a heroic figure in his life. But there may be more to both of these men than meets the eye.

When Chuck's father (Scott Bakula) is abducted by Fulcrum forces, Chuck attempts to rescue him by putting his faith in a most unlikely person---his double-crossing ex-girlfriend, Jill (Jordana Brewster). Meanwhile, at Buy More, the nerd herd tries to derail a corporate evaluation supervised by Emmett (Tony Hale).

Chuck and Sarah go AWOL in a stealthy quest to rescue Chuck's father (Scott Bakula), and they soon inch closer to one another while free from the governmental surveillance that usually eyes them. Meanwhile, Casey works to pinpoint their secret location. And Morgan turns into a Buy More outcast after he unwittingly gets Emmett promoted. Chevy Chase guest stars.

In the Season 2 finale, Ellie and Awesome's wedding day arrives, but Chuck must spring into action to save his sister from evil Fulcrum forces and one Ted Roark (Chevy Chase). Guest stars include Scott Bakula, Morgan Fairchild, Bruce Boxleitner and Tony Hale.
