The guilty pleasure returns
The setting of the show is the street of Wisteria Lane in the fictional American town of Fairview, Eagle State. It follows the lives of a group of women, seen through the eyes of their dead neighbor, as they work through domestic struggles and family life, while facing the secrets, crimes and mysteries hidden behind the doors of their - at the surface - beautiful suburban neighborhood.
The show features an ensemble cast, which was originally headed by Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Hodge, Eva Longoria Parker as Gabrielle Solis, and Nicollette Sheridan, who is now the fifth lead, due to the immense popularity of her character, Edie Britt. - Five years have passed since Katherine shot her ex-husband as Susan, Lynette, Bree and Gaby stood together in solidarity to protect her. Susan tries to hide her relationship with a new man; Gaby struggles with motherhood; Bree is on the verge of publishing her own cookbook as business partner, Katherine, grows envious.
- 5x02 We're So Happy You're So Happy
- Lynette discovers her son, Porter, has a softer side, which she finds endearing; Gaby amusingly attempts to mask her demise in social stature; and the time has come for the men in Susan's life to meet. Meanwhile Bree begins to feel the pressures of balancing marriage and a career.
- 5x03 Kids Ain't Like Everybody Else
- Bree's estranged daughter, Danielle, returns to Wisteria Lane and is met with a deluge of criticism; Gaby and Susan find themselves embroiled in a catfight brought on by an altercation between their kids; to her chagrin, Lynette comes home to find Tom and Dave have formed a garage band.
- 5x04 Back in Business
- Bree's new cookbook and entrepreneurial success has the women of Wisteria Lane feeling envious; Lynette's longing for a taste of her breadwinning days as an ad-exec leads her to lend an unsolicited hand to Bree's marketing plan.
- 5x05 Mirror, Mirror
- We learn what has transpired on Wisteria Lane in the past five years. Driven by a hidden agenda, Dave convinces Susan to throw Mrs. McCluskey a surprise party for her 70th birthday; Jackson wants to take his relationship with Susan to the next level; Gaby's concerned she might be pregnant.
- 5x06 There's Always a Woman
- Susan and Jackson broke up; she wanted a casual relationship while he wanted to discuss their future. Two days later she confronts the naked woman she finds in his apartment. Bree meets Orson's college roommate. One of the Scavo twins has been grounded.
- 5x07 What More Do I Need?
- Bree fires a teenager who stole money from her. The teenager admits he spent the money on pot; Bree gives him two days to return the money. Later, the teen wants to get the money from Andrew in exchange for giving Andrew a tape.
- 5x08 City on Fire
- Several Wisteria Lane residents are trapped inside a nightclub fire.
- 5x09 The Road You Didn't Take
- Andrew gets a new boyfriend. Bree's on sleeping pills with hilarious repercussions. Carlos might get his sight back.

Hey Carrie & Co., not since Sex and the City, has a female-centered show sustained national attention. Did you guys find yourselves comparing the new Desperate Housewives to Sex and The City last night? I did. They both have common denominators which include middle aged women yearning for love! In SATC you have four classy women who share friendship, single life and lunches together in New York city against DH's women who also share friendship, married life and a poker game once a week on Wisteria Lane.
Here's the ultimate question: Which show is do you prefer? Desperate Housewives or Sex and The City?

I prefer Desperate Housewives, because it is interesting and has a little comedy, romance, and mystery rather than showing a bunch horny ladies who think about sex all the time, which I am referring it to Sex and The City. I love DH..:)

Desperate Housewives because the characters are much easier to relate to. SATC is too fairy-tale. I could be friends with the ladies (not all ;-) of Wisteria Lane but SATC is written too much like a fantasy.

Watching the first episode I recalled the first shot in David Lynch's Blue Velvet, in which the camera tracks along a seemingly idyllic suburban neighborhood, only to plunge suddenly into the insect-infested dirt below. It's not subtle, but it was an apt metaphor for "Desperate Housewives," which actually manages to rise above its cliched premise to provide viewers with a solid hour of black humor. Tell me: What do you think of Desperate Housewives?
