Finally, a cop show for skeptics
Golden Globe Award nominee Simon Baker stars as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation. He also makes frequent use of his mentalist abilities to lead witnesses or offenders into offering the actual facts of the case, as known only to them.
Within the Bureau, Jane is notorious for his blatant lack of protocol and his semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium, whose paranormal abilities he now admits he feigned. Jane's role in cracking a series of tough high-profile cases is greatly valued by his fellow agents. Continue Reading...

SIMON Baker might be one of the handsomest leading men on TV, but that's not the only reason why "The Mentalist" is this season's biggest success story. Baker's humor, his roguish charm, and vulnerability are cited as the reason the show does so well. Let's put it this way...He is not hard on the eyes. My wife certainly thinks so.

Should Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon get together?
Anyone else see something between Patrick Jane and Teresea Lisbon? Baker's Patrick Jane uses his people-reading ability for good, as a consultant to the California Bureau of Investigation. As his dubious cop boss, Robin Tunney (Prison Break), she of the wistful eyebrows, is bemused or annoyed accordingly, and the two have a crisp, charming camaraderie.

NEVER DOGGING IT Baker on the case in The Mentalist
Is The Mentalist a ripoff of Psych?
Patrick Jane, a consultant to the CBI (California Bureau of Investigation) with a serious knack for solving crimes, using super observation skills. Sound familiar? The Mentalist has been criticized by many as a copy of the other psychic related show currently on television, Psych. In Psych, the main character, Shawn Spencer, not only continues the ruse of being a psychic, but he has a partner, and their antics lead to some very funny moments.
Many people believe "The Mentalist" to be a Psych rip-off, where do you stand?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byMentalist shares Psych's premise, but is a completely different
NKD says:
It's brilliant! I love Patrick Jane. The mentalist (show) is humourous, yet at the same time serious, scary and mysterious. It's utter genius.

Dani says:
The Mentalist is similar to Psych, you cannot deny it, but the characters, the chemistry, its all so different. Jane has a different way of finding these clues, meanwhile Shawn pretends to have a "vision". No one in the office believes him, meanwhile, Jane is a trusted source. The Mentalist is funny, but its not made a comedy like Psych. Its like comparing it to Bones. Similar story line, similar chemistry, the same comedy, and so on. Why do you immediatley have to say its a Psych rip-off? It's a great show, and I enjoy both.

mentalist is awesome says:
the mentalist is one of the best shows on tv today, and the people who say that the mentalist is a rip-off are stupid or just hate the fact that people prefer the mentalist rather than the unpopular psych. and besides simon baker is way hotter than shawn spencer.the storylines are far more interesting and it is funny and serious at the same time.

The Mentalist Rocks
Praise the best show on television right here.
This show is becoming one of my favorites this fall. It is light and entertaining with the beautiful Baker in the lead and doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. A nice complement to the darker, analytical or complex shows that have set the tone for so long (e.g. Heroes, CSI). What do you think? Praise the best show on television right here (or pan it if your heart so desires).

- Oh my gosh, I just love this show!!!!! Simon's such a great actor; he fits this character perfectly! I totally think that Patrick and Teresa should get together, but not yet because it's too soon in the season. They have such an amazing chemistry. If you go to youtube and type in "A wish for something more (Patrick Jane/ Teresa Lisbon), you'll see this video that shows their chemistry really well. I think that the Mentalist is the best show in the world ever created.
