It's all in a workday at The Office

The Office is an American adaptation of the BBC series with the same name and depicts the everyday lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Unlike many American sitcoms, The Office is shot in a single-camera setup, without a studio audience or a laugh track, and is made in the form of a documentary, or "mockumentary".

The Office is presented as a "mockumentary," and the primary vehicle for the show is that a camera crew has decided to film Dunder Mifflin and its employees, seemingly around the clock. The presence of the camera is acknowledged by the characters, with some actors, especially Michael Scott, enthusiastically participating in the filming. Others, for example Jan Levinson, are frequently annoyed or uncomfortable at its presence. (continue reading)

The Office is not just the slapstick comedy that requires a minimal amount of brain cells. It's the kind of comedy that makes you realize that there are actually people on this earth that are so oblivious to how everything works.

Poll: What do you think has been Dwight Schrute's finest hour?

Dwight is by far my favorite character in the office, followed by Jim, and probably Michael in a close 3rd. What makes Dwight so lovable are all those gullible moments when Jim pulls the wool over his eyes. And yet Dwight still manages to rise to the occasion on more than one occasion and bring us laughter. Which is your favorite Dwight "success" story?

Dwight Schrute's Schrute-Space

An interesting post over at Schrute-Space, where Rainn Wilson blogs in character as Dwight Shrute, the insanely loyal and awkward salesman at Dunder-Mifflin Scranton.

"I hope you are reading this at home and not during working hours because this weblog entry has nothing to do with your job, unless you are an anime scholar, sexual education expert, cultural examiner with a focus on bizarre sexual matters, or a marine biologist."

I cannot wait for The new season of The Office to begin! Man this list is hilarious! I am cracking up watching these scenes. You've showed most of my faves, but how about when he maces Pam's ex-fiance? when he takes ryan on the sales training trip and they end up at the beet farm? or when Dwight is on the roof waiting for the CIA and tossing his phone. oh the list could go on...

"The Office" vs "The Office"

While we all wait for the next episode to be broadcast lets play critic and compare and contrast the original BBC version with the NBC version of the television shows 'The Office.' The American show has really moved on, but I liked that there are some recalls back to the British, intentional or unintentional.

Here's the ultimate question: Which show is better? The US version or the UK version?

US version

Ian says:

As I am American, I feel fairly ashamed at the comments left by my fellow countrypeople while the supporters of the UK version have well thought out discussions. Now, I tend to prefer the American version over the UK version, and I have watched both. I guess I tend to think that the main people's characterization works better in this version. It seems more...realistic, I guess, in the way they portray their people. Question: Which bear is best?

K says:

UK blows big dick

luv ya says:

US!!!!!

God says:

I LIKE PIE

Danna says:

The US version is way better. Period.

UK version

123 Fake St. says:

I won't knock the US version as it's one of the better American shows on tv right now, but it will never match the original. Also, I agree with Kate that Gervais is right in not dragging the show on until it's unbearable (which seems to be the trend for promising American shows)

Bob says:

roflcopter!

dazza says:

you yanks have ruined the office... the reason the original is better is obvious... shown in over 80 countries, adapted by loads of countries and all of them are rubbish in comparison... INCLUDING the US version.. you made it worse..... FACT

darren says:

first of all, the uk version is obviously going to be better as its the original... its Ricky Gervais' idea and you americans have taken it and tryed to make it you own... even ricky gervais himself says you lot have ruined his show.. Second of all ... you've dumbed it down and made all the character's stupid and unrealistic... Steve Carrell plays the same bloke he did in 40 year old virgin.... and even that was wank!
Uk version is the original and the best... most sold world wide, and was played in over 80 countries and has loads of spin offs in germany,france,canada... and you guessed it AMERICA... your version is just a shitty spin off!

Kate says:

The UK version wins. Carrell would be nothing without Gervais. He is the real genius behind the whole thing - The US version wouldn't even exist without the UK version! The reason there aren't so many series of the UK version is because Gervais doesn't like to milk things. He believes in quality over quantity - just look at "Extras". Of course, the Americans just want as many ratings as possible.

THE OFFICE's TV Guide Cover | Give Me My Remote
THE OFFICE's TV Guide Cover. April 7, 2008 by Give Me My Remote. Jim, Pam and Dwight will be on the cover of the April 14th issue of TV Guide. Many people were wondering what secrets the cover would reveal, and sadly not many. ...
theoffice_us: Jim in Season 6
2009-11-15 08:37 pm UTC (link). In his relationship with Pam -- he has become a doormat. In the office -- he's morphing into Michael. I wouldn't say the character is ruined, but he's less interesting. Andy is the new Jim. .... Jim has always been the straight-man though. As much as he loved playing pranks, his job in the series is to play the straight-man to Dwight and Micheal. He's been the responsible one, really, throughout. For example, look at "The Injury". ...
The Office Quotes: "Murder" - TV Fanatic
Jim is serious. Dwight is intense. Andy and Erin like each other. Angela is a b!tch. Kevin's a goofball. Creed has a weird past and is hilarious in his one weekly line. Stanley is unmoved. Pam and Oscar just try to stay sane. ...

A comedy not for everyone. Just anyone that works.

Have you missed the original UK hit series "The Office" that spawned the American spin-off of that everyone's now talking about? It's not too late to get up to speed.
