Just In Case You Need a Reason...

For anyone who didn't see Twilight in theatres, here are ten reasons to get up to speed on the latest film craze.

Maybe you've been waiting for it to come out on home video. Or perhaps you didn't want to see Twilight in the first place. Either way, at least one of these arguments should convince you to find a copy of Twilight and finally see it.

About Twilight

If You've Been on Mars for Awhile

Twilight is the first part in a series about Bella Swan - a human teenager who falls in love with a vampire called Edward Cullen. Stephenie Meyer's novel was a hit among teen girls, but was only moderately praised by critics.

Filming for the adaptation began in March of 2008. The already popular novels began to sell even more copies as would be fans prepared for the film's release. Not surprisingly, the movie was a huge hit with fans. Twilight has made over $370, 000,000 worldwide.

#10 Everyone Else Is Doing It

Twilight StudentsSeriously, do you want to be the only person in the free world who hasn't seen Twilight?

Sure, if you're a non-conformist, you probably get a little rush every time someone makes a Twilight reference and you get to roll your eyes and say apathetically "I haven't seen that movie." But even if you're a Twilight hater, you should still see it so that you can back up your arguments. Know thy enemy!

Have You Seen it Already?

Perhaps you've seen Twilight, and just need a little extra convincing before you pick up the Blu-ray copy?

#9 It's Got Baseball

Twilight Baseball SceneThat's right. Baseball.

If one didn't know that the film is based on a novel that was published in 2005, one might think that Hollywood was trying to subliminally cheer everyone up with some good old-fashioned Americana.

Aside from the fact that it sets up the 'exciting' half of the movie, the baseball scene doesn't really do much for the mood of the movie. It's good for a laugh, either because you loved the scene from the book, or because you think it's ridiculous.

#8 Realistic Vampire Bites

Finally!

At long last a book/movie has been clever enough to end the ridiculous idea that a vampire's bite would leave but two ugly little holes. Anyone who has ever been bitten by anything with sharp canines can tell you there's a lot more than a few little pricks in the skin.

As predators, vampires are much more likely to take whole pieces off of you.
(See also: The Lost Boys).

The idea that vampires will gently nip is reserved for those who think that they're romantic. So kudos to Twilight for being a romantic vampire movie, but not being stupid about it.

Vampires: Evil or Idols?

There was once a time when vampires were considered part of the monster family of film characters. They were just as horrible as werewolves, swamp creatures, axe murders and zombies.

Lately, movies and books alike have been turning vampires into lovable creatures with feelings and expensive hair styles.

The irony here is, that vampires are considered romantic and desirable because they are unattainable. They are the rebels, the tortured poets, the untameable beasts.

Or at least they used to be.

Should vampires be romantic or terrifying?

Romantic!

twelfthhouse says:

I think they should be both romantic and a little terrifying.

Terrifying!

unique_freak77 says:

No one wants sparkling vampires! I want some vicious!!!

Chris says:

TERRIFYING. I like my vampires mean and evil, not sparkly and emo.

#7 It's Got Google

Google TwilightCome on! Everyone loves Google!

When was the last time you saw a movie that didn't include some kind of internet search montage? What better way is there to explain 20 pages of narrative without ruining the whole movie with talk? All you have to do is show pictures and headlines from websites that your main character finds after Googling whatever was said to them in the previous scene.

Other films that have done it:

Mission: Impossible
Fallen
Cat Woman
Final Destination II

#6 Your Girlfriend Will Love It

Guys, just think about it. Imagine the look on her face when you walk in and say "Let's stay in and watch a movie. I bought you Twilight." Now there's guaranteed browning points.

But if she's really cynical and hates teen culture, then you should say "I rented Twilight so we can see how awful it is." If you're lucky, she'll actually find it romantic (it kind of is, you know) and want to make out afterwards.

#5 Have a MST3K Party

As in Mystery Science Theatre 3000

Tom ServoIf you're truly unwilling to give a movie like Twilight a fair chance - if not to impress you, then at least to entertain you for 122 minutes - then you can at least laugh at it. Invite your friends over, pop the popcorn, and say every rude thing that comes into your head while viewing the movie.

As an added bonus, you could tape your Mystery Science Theatre-esque Twilight commentary and post it on YouTube. Other haters will love you for it. As long as your jokes don't suck.

Twilight Trailer Spoof

This comedic take on the Twilight movie trailers is down right hilarious. Even Twilight lovers should get a giggle out of it.

Personally, it had me laughing so hard my eyes were watering. See what you think of it.

#4 There Will Be Sequels

New MoonOh, yes, there will be sequels.

There are currently four novels published in the series, and the adaptation of the second book is already being filmed.

You just know that two years from now, someone is going to make you watch New Moon with them on DVD, and you'll have no idea what's going on. They'll know that you have no idea, so they'll try to bring you up to speed, thus talking during the whole movie. This is annoying even when you're not interested in the film.

So, do yourself a favor and get caught up on the story now. At least a movie is only two hours of your life. It takes at least a day to read the novel.

A New Moon

The second book in the Twilight series has even more food for teen thought - post-breakup depression!

After all is mended, Edward, realizing the danger that he and his family create for Bella, sees no option for her safety but to leave. Mourning his departure, she slips into a downward spiral of depression that penetrates and lingers over her every step.

#3 Great Soundtrack

Although it is a drippy romantic teen movie at it's core, the Twilight soundtrack does not include any songs by artists like Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Mya, Avril Lavigne, Creed, Nickelback or Mandy Moore.

What it does have are tracks by: Muse, Radiohead, Linkin Park and Collective Soul, to name a few.

#2 No Awkward Sex Scenes

Twilight HighYou know the ones. They're meant to make the film more interesting, but they just make you wish that you weren't watching the movie with your mother in law, or that friend that asked you out two months ago and you shot down.

As far as romantic movies, and vampire movies go, it actually has very little sensuality, and none of the weird adolescent moments you would expect to find in a movie set in a high school.

Guys: just in case the sex would have been a seller for you, you do get to see Kristen Stewart in her drawers.

Robert Pattinson keeps his shirt on through the whole movie. Sorry ladies.

#1 Great Cast

Rachelle Lefevre Although most of the actors in Twilight weren't household names until promos began, they are all excellent and well respected artists. And the casting director somehow managed to find people who's names already sound like gothic and evil to play the vampires:

Rachelle Lefevre
Kellan Lutz
Peter Facinelli
Cam Gigandet
Jackson Rathbone

Neat.
