To Unravel A Murder, You Have To Strip It To The Bone.
Bones is an American drama television series that premiered on the Fox Network on September 13, 2005. The series is very loosely based on the works of real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, who is herself a producer on the show. Its title character, Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan is named after the protagonist of Reichs' crime novel series. The show is a forensics and police procedural drama in which each episode focuses on an FBI case file concerning the mystery behind the human remains brought to Dr. Brennan's forensic anthropology team at the Jeffersonian Institution by FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth. Season 1
- 101 Pilot
- After returning to Washington, D.C., renowned forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan is called in by FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth to aid an FBI investigation involving a set of bones found hidden in a lake.
- 102 The Man in the S.U.V.
- An SUV explodes outside a cafe, killing several civilians. When Dr. Brennan confirms the identity of the deceased driver to be the leader of the Arab-American Friendship League, the authorities suspect the man to be a terrorist. Through examining the human remains of the driver, Brennan and her team are able to help Agent Booth to find the killer and stop a potential terrorist act involving the President.
- 103 A Boy in the Tree
- A boy is found hanging from a tree at an exclusive private school, apparently having committed suicide. Things quickly become more complicated when the school attempts a cover-up.
- 104 The Man in the Bear
- Dr. Brennan reluctantly joins Agent Booth to travel to Washington State, where a human arm was found inside the stomach of a bear. As Brennan identifies the man, she discovers that he might have been a victim of a cannibal.
- 105 A Boy in a Bush
- A six-year-boy's remains is found near a shopping mall and when he is confirmed by Dr. Brennan to be the same boy who went missing from a local park, Booth and Brennan's team work together to find his murderer.
- 106 The Man in the Wall
- During a fight at a dance club, a wall breaks open to reveal a mummified corpse and a stash of methamphetamine. When Brennan and her team identifies the deceased to be a former DJ of the dance club, Booth and Brennan investigate a rival DJ and the owner of the dance club.
- 107 A Man on Death Row
- Howard Epps, a death row inmate, has less than two days left before his execution. When his attorney asks for Booth's help to prove his innocence, Booth agrees to look over the case and asks Brennan and her team to help him, even though he is convinced of Epps' guilt.
- 108 The Girl in the Fridge
- Brennan's former professor and ex-lover, Michael, comes to Washington, D.C. and the two quickly resume their relationship. After Brennan and her team help Booth identify a young woman found in a refrigerator, they proceed to find out who had killed the woman. As Brennan works to gather evidence for the prosecution, she discovers that Michael has been appointed as an expert witness for the defence.
- 109 The Man in the Fallout Shelter
- Two days before Christmas, Booth brings in the body of a man found in a fallout shelter. While Brennan is eager to examine the body, her colleagues want to go to the company's Christmas party. When Zack cuts into the bones of the man, he accidentally releases a deadly fungus that causes the team, including Booth and Dr. Goodman, to be quarantined over Christmas.
- 110 The Woman at the Airport
- Brennan and Booth investigate the body parts of a woman found in different locations by Los Angeles International Airport. However, Brennan and her team have trouble identifying the victim when they discover that she had extensive cosmetic surgery done, which altered the core architecture of her skull.
- 111 The Woman in the Car
- An agent from the state department is sent to perform a security review on Brennan and her team. Meanwhile, the burnt body of a woman is found in a car with signs that her child was kidnapped, leading Booth and Brennan to suspect the father, Carl Decker. Their investigation is complicated when Decker turns out to be in the witness protection program.
- 112 The Superhero in the Alley
- A decomposed corpse in a superhero outfit is found in an alley. Booth and Brennan discover that the victim was a fan of comic books and had engaged in role playing with his friends, but his attempt at being a hero had deadly consequences.
- 113 The Woman in the Garden
- Brennan joins Booth in his investigation regarding a dug-up corpse found in the back of a gang member's car. When Brennan and her team examine the original burial site of the corpse, they find another empty grave, leading Booth to believe that there was a double homicide.
- 114 The Man in the Fairway
- Brennan and Zack investigate a small jet crash that was carrying some Chinese diplomats and an unidentified female guest. At the crash site, Brennan finds some bone fragments that do not belong to any of the passengers, but might belong to a man who has been missing for five years.
- 115 Two Bodies in the Lab
- Two cases are brought to the Jeffersonian Institute; one concerning the human remains of whom the FBI thinks is mob boss James Cuguni, while the other concerns a possible murder victim of serial killer Kevin Hollings. When Brennan narrowly misses being the target of a shooting while waiting for a date, it becomes probable that the shooter is connected to one of these cases.
- 116 The Woman in the Tunnel
- The body of a documentary film-maker is found at the bottom of a tunnel shaft beneath Washington, D.C. Brennan and Booth are introduced to an underground society, whose leader thinks he might be responsible for the victim's death.
- 117 The Skull in the Desert
- When Angela finds a skull in the desert on her vacation, she asks Brennan for help identifying the skull as she fears that it may be her missing boyfriend's.
- 118 The Man with the Bone
- Booth brings Brennan to examine a 300-year-old finger bone that was found with a corpse in a national park. When they discover that the bone may have belonged to a pirate, the team is led on a hunt for pirate treasure.
- 119 The Man in the Morgue
- Brennan is on vacation in New Orleans identifying bodies of Hurricane Katrina victims. When she suddenly wakes up and realizes that she has lost her memory of the previous day, Booth flies down to help her. Soon, she becomes the prime suspect in a murder case.
- 120 The Graft in the Girl
- The team helps FBI Deputy Director Sam Cullen's daughter, Amy, when she contracts a rare form of lung cancer after receiving a bone graft. Booth and Brennan learn she is not the only victim with this rare form of cancer.
- 121 The Soldier on the Grave
- A charred body found in a cemetery leads to the team investigating a possible cover-up involving a group of soldiers in the Iraq war.
- 122 The Woman in Limbo
- Booth opens an investigation into the disappearance of Dr. Brennan's parents when her mother's remains are discovered. Brennan reunites with her brother, whom Booth brings to Washington, D.C. to help in the investigation.
Season 3
- The Widow's Son in the Windshield
- The team investigates a case concerning a skull smashing through the windshield of a group of teenagers' car. The skull belongs to a violinist who disappeared after a concert and may have been a victim of cannibalism. While Zack is away, Brennan searches for a new assistant. Angela and Hodgins hire a private investigator to track down Angela's ex-husband.
- Soccer Mom in the Mini-Van
- A minivan explodes, killing its sole occupant, a woman who has been known to the FBI for nearly thirty years. The team investigates the crime which has links to a violent crime the woman was involved in while she was a member of the National Liberation Army in the 1970s. Meanwhile, Brennan visits her father, who is in prison after being arrested by Booth.
- Death in the Saddle
- After the decomposed body of a man, whose feet were removed and arms bound, is found in the woods, the team is called in to investigate. When the man is discovered to have stayed at a S&M retreat, his wife and S&M lover become suspects in the case. Meanwhile, Angela attempts to go under hypnosis to find out the name of her previous husband, which she cannot remember.
- The Secret in the Soil
- Booth and Brennan are called to investigate a decomposed body found on the grounds of a V.A. hospital. The body, belonging to the founder of an organic supermarket chain, was indicated by its unusually high temperature to have been incinerated. The team discovers a double homicide when flesh from another body is found, which turns out to have belonged to the first victim's daughter. Meanwhile, the FBI forces Booth and Brennan to undergo psychiatric counseling.
- Mummy in the Maze
- The FBI is called to investigate after the mummified remains of a teenage girl are found in a Halloween-themed maze. Brennan and her team determine that the girl has been dead for about a year. Another mummified remains of a teenage girl are found at a Halloween amusement park funhouse, who they determine to have been killed approximately two years ago. When the team finds out that a third teenage girl is missing, they realize they have until the Halloween holiday to save her.
- Intern in the Incinerator
- Employees of the Jeffersonian Institute become murder suspects when the remains of a Jeffersonian intern is found in the building's incinerator. Booth, Brennan and their team set about to investigate her death and find that she had been working on the Widow's Son case, which is still open. They acquire further motives for her death when they discover that she had been in a romantic relationship with a Jeffersonian employee. Meanwhile, Booth poses as Cam's boyfriend and accompanies her to her family get-together.
- Boy in the Time Capsule
- The body of a teenage boy is found by his former high school classmates to have been hidden inside a time capsule that was buried 20 years ago. As the team investigates the class of 1987 to find the boy's killer, they find a disk among his belongings, containing a game which would have been a landmark title in 1987 if released. They also discover that he was the father of one of his classmates' son. Brennan and Booth share high school memories while they receive some psychological profiling advice of the killer from their therapist, Dr. Sweets.
- The Knight on the Grid
- Booth and Brennan's investigation into the death of an archbishop leads them back on the case of the Widow's Son serial killer when the archbishop's kneecaps were discovered to have been surgically removed. They realize that the killer has a pattern for choosing victims after Angela finds a victim tree in the evidence vault. The team attempts to make predictions on who the next victim is while Dr. Sweets provides psychological insights into the killer for Brennan and Booth. Meanwhile, Brennan's brother reappears.
- The Santa in the Slush
- Three days before Christmas, Booth, Brennan and their team are sent to investigate the death of a Santa Claus impersonator after his body was discovered in the sewer near a mall. The team discovers that the man's legal name was Kristopher Kringle and was highly regarded in his profession while he worked for a local "Rent-A-Santa" business. Meanwhile, Brennan and Booth find themselves under a mistletoe, and Brennan decides to spend Christmas with her father, brother and his family.
- The Man in the Mud
- A body is discovered at Homestead Natural Hot Springs in a spring filled with mud. Booth and Brennan go to investigate the scene and find that the body is that of Tripp Goddard, a sexy motorcycle racer who had been murdered about two weeks ago after a race. Sweets' girlfriend is also introduced.
- Played Under Pressure
- All team members are working to identify the bones from a college athlete who suffered a lot of fractures. After the body is identified they talk to his sister and somebody who acted as a sort of an adviser for the deceased. Angela and Hodgins have an important talk. Zack is overwhelmed by having to reconstruct the crushed bones to form a skeleton.
- Baby In The Bough
- A woman's car is run off the road and she is killed, but her baby miraculously survives the accident. Booth and Brennan go to the woman's hometown to try to find out who's responsible for running her car off the road. Bones, with help from Booth, takes care of the baby until the team finds out who killed the mother.
- Wannabe In The Weeds
- A wannabe singer Tommy Sour is found on a grassy location. The investigation leads Brennan, Booth, and Cam to the Checker Box Restaurant where Tommy used to sing. There are several suspects who took part in the open mike contest there, with talent scouts in the audience. The group comes together with a startling revelation for Brennan.
- The Pain In The Heart
- The Gormogon serial killer is back again, and the silver skeleton from the basement vault has gone missing. All the Jeffersonian employees become suspects, with the scary possibility that one of their own is working with Gormogon.
