Water Filter Systems

Water filtration systems have been around for many years. There are a few common uses for water filters - a popular application is the water pitcher with filter. A water pitcher filter can keep your water cold in the refrigerator and at the same time filter out the harmful and unecessary chemicals that are delivered through ordinary tap water. Water pitchers are easy to use and become a great asset to enjoy fresh, cold clean water any day of the year.

You can also install a water filter system on your faucet. There are horizontal and vertical filtration systems that go right on the end of your kitchen sink faucet. Once the filter system is installed then you can turn on your water and it is instantly filtered - what a snap to use and install!

Water Filters - What You Need to Know

The 411 on Water Filtration

If you're looking for a water filter, you can't really just walk in and buy the first one you see. There are all different types, styles, sizes, and price ranges, so getting the right one for you can take some time and research. However, you can definitely find what you want if you learn a little about the different options that you'll have available.

Carbon water filters - these are among the simplest and least expensive when it comes to the water filters on the market today, but they actually work quite well. Around ninety-five percent of the people who use water filters in their homes use this kind. They take most things out of water, they are simple to use, and they are very easy to install. They have charcoal filters in them which have to be changed, but one filter should last around six to nine months for a normal family.

Water distillers - the idea of distilling water to take out all of the minerals became very popular not that long ago, paving the way for people to develop devices to do this. However, it wasn't that long before it was discovered that drinking only distilled water can upset the mineral balance in a person's body and the minerals in the water are needed. It's healthier that way, and water distillers fell out of favor with most people. The same is true with reverse osmosis filters, because they produce essentially the same results as water distillers. The same assumptions about the quality and safety of their water can be made.

UV radiation systems - in third-world countries these UV systems are used a lot because they kill all living organisms, thus making the water safe to drink. Unfortunately, unless the water is laboratory analyzed it's impossible to tell whether these are working. Most people in developed countries also don't need them because the water quality is not poor enough for this to be a concern.

Magnetic systems - within the last four decades some new ideas have come to light, and systems that deal with magnetic cleaning are starting to gain a following. Minerals are differently polarized and ionized when they pass through a magnetic field and the water molecules become softer. This offers a limited antioxidant effect and negative ionization of the water, which could potentially provide some serious health benefits for charcoal water filters. Single-flow systems are the most common but they don't separate the water into streams that are magnetically opposite, so the water must be consumed right away to get the benefits.

Bottled water - whether bottled water compares to tap water and how much healthier it is is one of those things that people still debate. Studies that have been conducted, though, have shown that both bottled water - which has been filtered and purified - and tap water were both within safe limits for drinking. Which one you decided on or what you choose to use to filter your water has to be up to you based on research and what you feel comfortable with.
