The True Price Of Bottled Water

During the late 1970's a few studies suggested that some municipal water supplies were contaminated with lead, chlorine, chemical contaminants and other health hazards.

At the same time as these studies were being released bottled water hit the grocery store shelves.

At first people laughed at the idea of purchasing water in a bottle when you could just get it from your tap. But as more reports came out, the shift towards bottled water began.

We became so obsessed by purchasing our water in bottles that not only did we not questions it's quality but we also didn't look towards the future to see what an impact that bottled water has made on our earth.

On this page we will show you healthy alternatives to purchasing bottled water and show you some fact and figure that may shock you.

A Few Startling Facts About Bottled Water

~ There is no proof that bottled water is any purer than your tap water.
~ Many brands of bottled water is plain municipal tap water.
~ Some bottled water contains extra sodium.
~ On average we spend $1,400 a year per person on bottled water.
~ 17 million barrels of oil is used per year to produce the plastic bottles for water.
~ The production of plastic bottles releases toxics such as nickel, ethylbenzene, ethylene oxide and benzene.

So If I Don't Use Single Use Bottles What Are My Options?

You have several options but not all are good ones.

For instance, you could not carry any water with you when you leave your home. Of coarse this is not practical and it's also not healthy. You need to stay hydrated and water is the perfect choice.

You could also opt to use reusable bottles. This is a better option but you must be careful about which types of bottles you choose.

Some are downright hazardous to your health as noted by several recalls of cheap imported bottles.

Most bottles that are sold have no information on them stating what they are made of, where they were made, or even if they are safe for use.

However, Sigg water bottles are both safe for your family and for the earth.

On this page we will spotlight only SIGG bottles so you can feel confidant in choosing any of the Sigg styles for your family.

SIGG Bottle Facts

Sigg bottles are virtually unbreakable and are constructed with no seams, ensuring a long-lasting, leak-proof performance.

They also feature Sigg's proprietary baked-on inner liner, which is made from a non-toxic, water-based epoxy resin that exceeds FDA requirements for leaching (0.0 percent) and is independently tested to be taste- and scent-neutral.

Every Sigg bottle is 100 percent recyclable at the end of its life, and is backed by a lifetime warranty.

Q: Can Sigg bottles be used for boiling water?
A: No. Strong heat can damage the outer coating.

Q: Can dents in the bottle damage the Sigg bottle's inner coating?
A: No, the Sigg inner coating is highly elastic. Dents cannot crack or chip the internal lining and the Sigg bottle remains perfectly usable.

Q: Can I use my Sigg bottle for carbonated drinks?
A: Yes, all Sigg bottle tops provide a 100 percent seal and will not leak. It's recommended that you fill the bottle no further than 1/2-inch below the lip. And before taking a drink, relieve the pressure inside the bottle by gently rotating the entire top.

Q: Are Sigg bottles dishwasher safe?
A: Yes, but because of the narrow mouth of the bottle, hand washing is recommended.

Q: Can a Sigg bottle be placed in the freezer?
A: No, as this may cause the bottle to crack. However, the bottle can be chilled in the refrigerator.

Artist Chris Jordan Gives You a Visual Treat That Is Worth a Look

We all hear that we should Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. We then are given a bunch of facts that we can't quite wrap our minds around.

Artist Chris Jordan has beautifully translated the numbing numbers into works of art.

"This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs. Employing themes such as the near versus the far, and the one versus the many, I hope to raise some questions about the role of the individual in a society that is increasingly enormous, incomprehensible, and overwhelming."

The Products Highlighted Can Be Purchased and Shipped Through Amazon

Why Purchase through Amazon?

What is Amazon doing to reduce packaging waste?

During 2007, Amazon made significant progress to reduce excess packaging in its shipments to customers and introduced additional types of recyclable packing materials to protect items while in transit.

Amazon has developed a software program that determines the "right-sized" box for any given item to be shipped to a customer, based on that item's dimensions and weight. As a result, the number of packages shipped in a wrong-sized box has decreased dramatically, significantly reducing packaging waste and transportation costs.

In 2007, Amazon also enhanced its fulfillment systems, sending 30% of its larger-sized packages to customers without any additional packaging, further reducing packaging waste and transportation costs.

Does Amazon use environmentally friendly packaging materials?

Yes. Most Amazon.com orders are shipped in corrugated containers which on average contain 43% recovered fiber content. Once used, these containers are 100% recyclable for use in the manufacture of other paper products.

In Amazon's U.S. fulfillment centers that primarily ship larger products such as televisions, kitchen appliances, and other household items, we've introduced paper packing materials that are 100% recyclable and are made from 50% recycled content.

The air-filled pillows that are sometimes used to protect items in Amazon shipments are 100% recyclable and non-toxic. If a customer cannot reuse or recycle these cushions, they can be deflated and disposed of. Deflated air cushions take up less than 1% of their inflated volume.
