Wavemaster Punching Bag

If you know of someone that is interested in Martial Arts or Boxing, you can give them a great gift this holiday season.  Give them the gift of that will get them off the couch.  The Wavemaster Training Bag will help strengthen arm and back muscles, help them get a great workout and stay in excellent shape for the new year.

You may have seen other heavy bags where you have to hang them from the ceiling.  But the Wavemaster Training Bag is self standing.  All you need is water or sand and you are good to go.  No drilling , no ceiling joists getting torked and no mess.  You have 7 Height Adjustments from 47" to 68" in 3" Increments, which will work for most people seven years and older.  All it takes is ambition and you are on your way.

Self standing bags

If your wondering how well a self standing Wavemaster Training Bag works, all you have to do is ask. I have used a standing punching bag for many years in my Martial Arts school and I have had very positive results from them.
You should learn how to use them so you can have a better understanding of what they are designed to do.

First, they are not a pushing bag. It is a punching bag. If you push it over it will tip over. So, with that said, you should hit or kick the bag, not tackle it to the ground.

Second, when you kick or strike the bag, you can hit it hard because this bag has about four inches of padding around the core, so you don't hit the middle like you do in other self standing bags. This way if you are a bigger guy, you don't slam your shin into the hard plastic core.

Free Standing Punching Bag

When you use a free standing punching bag like the Wavemaster Training Bag you will need training equiptment to go along with it.

You will want some Harbinger 130 Classic WristWrap Glove (Black)
bag gloves. I like to have the padded ones. What this does is gives you some cushion from all the jarring in your wrists and makes the workout much more comfortable. Kicking will not really have much of a noticeable effect on your joints, just don't kick the base. It is made out of some really resilient plastic, so leave that alone. Kick the padded area.

Sometimes the wrist gloves are more fun to get for Christmas than the bag. Kids and adults will be wrapping their hands with this stuff and showing off their masculinity. This is such a macho Mixed Martial Arts thing but it is so important for joint support when hitting a heavy bag. That helps prevent injury and supports your wrists. Plus, if I didn't mention, it is very "macho and cool"!.

WaveMaster Punching Bag

Heavy bag workout

With every Wavemaster Punching Bag, comes a heavy bag workout. How do you start your work out?

First off comes a disclaimer: consult with your doctor before beginning any exercise program, be aware of your limits, you agree to hold harmless the writer, that is myself, his associates, Century Martial Arts, Squidoo or any of it's affiliates from any claim that may arise from the use or mis-use of the bag or any claim that may arise and hold harmless anyone to do with this article. You are at your own risk when using this or any exercise equipment. I always have to add that stuff in.

Some great workout combination's begin with your standard jab, cross punching combo's.

If you are right handed most often you will start off by jabbing with your left hand first and following up with a right cross.

After doing that about 15 times add a round house kick to the jab, cross combo.

After about 15 more, do jab, cross, roundhouse, then left elbow.

Pros and Cons about the bag

From my experiences working with these bags

I really like the bag but you must understand it's limitations:

It is not a tackling dummy. So if you are a mixed martial artist wanting to tackle everything you see, this bag may not be for you.

If you tip it over and leave it that way for an extended period of time with water in it, it may leak on your floor. Avoid that problem by using sand instead.

You can't hit the top of the bag. It has a hard plastic unpadded core on the top. I really haven't seen too many bags where you can hit the top of them. Usually chains are in the way.

If you use it on a hardwood floor, it may slide too much. I would recommend using it on a carpeted floor or matted floor.

If you have an apartment, I would think first before buying it, because it may bug your neighbors with bouncing around too much.

If you need more weight to keep it from sliding on your carpet there is an attachment you can order to keep from skidding too much.

If you are using it for your children, where you can hold the bag, this prevents most problems.

You will find that most of the problems are noise issues in apartments where you have to be courteous to others. In your own home this isn't that relevant and just makes for an awesome Christmas gift.
