Wayne and Shuster - Canadian Comedy Team
Wayne and Shuster, comedy team composed of John Louis Wayne (b at Toronto 28 May 1918; d there 18 July 1990) and Frank Shuster (b at Toronto 5 Sept 1916; d there 13 Jan 2002). They met at Harbord Collegiate, Toronto, where they performed in annual revues.
By 1946 they had their own show on CBC and later on television. In 1950 they began appearing as guests on various American TV programs, including a record 67 performances on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
They moved to television in 1954. Backed by a seasoned group of character actors, the pair presented a program consisting entirely of sketches, mainly parodies of well-known plays, movies and TV shows. While often obvious, derivative (they were heavily influenced by Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows), or sophomoric, enough of the sketches were inspired and original to assure the comedy duo a loyal audience for well over 30 years.
Their last comedy special aired in October 1988 and their longstanding reign as the deans of Canadian comedy ended for good with the death of Johnny Wayne in July 1990.

Wayne and Shuster were a Canadian comedy duo formed by Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster which was active professionally from the early 1940s until the late 1980s.
Wayne (born Louis Weingarten, May 28, 1918 - July 18, 1990) and Shuster (September 5, 1916 - January 13, 2002) were well known in Canada, and were two of Ed Sullivan's recurring guests.
