Ways To Quit Smoking

There are many ways to quit smoking, and different methods work better depending on personality and level of addiction. Most people will make several attempts to quit smoking but will fail to succeed. Finding the right method for you can be difficult, but it's your first and most important step. If one method doesn't work, keep trying until you find one that does!

Here are a few popular methods that people use to quit:

Going Cold Turkey

Many try, and many fail. This may not be the best method for people who are heavy smokers (a pack a day or more), as they will experience the strongest withdrawal symptoms. For lighter smokers, this may be an effective choice.

Cold turkey means quitting entirely and never smoking again. Going cold turkey will not work if you say, "I'll just smoke when I'm drinking", or "I'll only be a social smoker". No excuses, just put it out and never light up again.

Nicotine Patches and Gum

One of the more popular ways to quit is to use nicotine replacement products. Nicotine patches are used to slowly wean the body from its physical addiction, easing the symptoms of withdrawal.

Usually, you start with a stronger dose and work your way down to a weaker dose over a few months, but each brand may very. This is proven to be more effective if you are involved with a quit smoking support group or are in counseling.

Nicotine gum works in basically the same way. Some people prefer nicotine gum as it provides an oral stimulant as well as a dose of nicotine

Using Hypnosis to Quit Smoking 

Many alternative methods to quit smoking have arisen in recent years, as many of the drugs used for smoking cessation can have adverse side effects. These side effects include headaches, feeling lightheaded, nausea, drowsiness, and upset stomach, to name a few. When you're trying to quit, the last thing you need is another problem.

Hypnosis is one popular new method, and the results have been rather positive. There are different types of hypnosis: hypnosis by a licensed hypnotherapist and self-induced hypnosis.

What is hypnosis? Hypnosis can be defined as: an artificially-induced altered state of consciousness, characterized by heightened suggestibility and receptivity to direction.

    Great Lens.
    I personally don't and never have smoked but my father used to smoke 40-60 cigs a day then 1 day after a visit to the doctor he stopped completely so he went cold turkey. Never did find out the real reason but several years later he died of cancer of the bones.
