Western Digital Element Hard Drive. Are they for you?
The come in 1TB, 1.5TB, and the new 2TB model. This amount of storage space for an external hard drive is mind-bogglingly huge.
They are all plug and play and very, very easy to use.
With any one of the three models you can have all of your pictures, movies and MP3's backed up and even stored remotely. They are all incredible items at incredible prices.

Western Digital Hard Drives
1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB WD Elements HD
WD Elements Review
Space: Crazy large. 1TB is almost an unthinkable amount of space for an external drive. 2TB is just plain crazy. This space should last you a long long time. Even if you are a movie nut and download a ton of digital movies, it would take you a long time to fill this up.
Size: A little larger than some drives. It is about the size of a paperback book. Some of the "slim" models can be the size of a deck of cards and are much more portable. If you are looking for something to put in your backpack...go with those. This one holds about 8-10 TIMES the amount of data of the slim kind, though.
Noise: I don't know how they do it, but you can barely hear that it is on.
Reliability: I have owned a few WD hard drives over the years to store my numerous, pictures, MP3 files videos and computer backups. I have never had a single issue with any of there products. Nor has anyone I know. I am sure they have issues, every product does. But personally I stand by their products and would never buy any brand besides WD.
Expense: I don't know how they do it. IT is cheaper than a lot of other brands that have less space. You are unlikely to beat the price.
Connection: It is USB 2.0 so connection is quick and easy. It is all plug and play. The speed of transfer is not as fast as SATA, but to me the difference is not appreciable. And ease of use is far far better than SATA.

PROS:
Its much smaller than I expected. It is dead silent, I had to touch it to convince myself that it was running, when I first turned it on. Its not too heavy either. The indicator light is placed at the rear, which is a very good thing (I find these LED's annoying, especially at night).
I would recommend it to beginners or pros alike. I am very happy with this purchase!
I use them as external tape drives, really. Big, cheap, work well. Attractive packaging. What else to say?
I just received the 1.5 TB WD Elements. I am using primarily as a backup for my
laptop and photos. Running it on Windows 7, the drive installed true plug and play,
with windows recognizing and loading drivers flawlessly. I quickly did a Windows
directed image backup. It worked fine, and the drive did not heat up much. I don't
know about durability, but am very satisfied so far. Only negative- it is now about
10 dollars cheaper on Amazon than I paid for it.
.....this one is excellent and worth the money. At this point, my only regret is that I got the 1.5TB drive not the 2TB drive.
This is my second WD HD. Easy to connect and easy to use....A "heavy duty" product......
Cons:
Short USB cord. I got this for a laptop.. the usb cord is about 18-24 inches.
usb 2.0 only. It would really rock if this had an eSata port
1TB Western digital elements HD Great size, decent speed, but slower than a Sata.....
On a personal note:
I am a longtime user of WD products. I have always found them usable and reliable. I have a 1TB version that I keep all my music (about 35,000 songs and growing) and all my photos on. I just got a 2nd (2TB) Version that I keep all my downloaded movies on and have a complete backup of my computer. In the last 20 years I have had about 5-6 WD products and have never had an issue with any of them. And I am not easy on my computer equipment. (I have gone through about 5 computers in that time) A quality company that makes quality products.

- I bought 3 western digital elements Hard Drives in the past 2 years, all three have failed within one year or less of being purchased. I was a loyal fan, now I've smartened up. The lost of effort, time and data is too devastating.

- It is just crazy how the hard drives have evolve these days. 2tb hdd is very common now. I still have my ancient 2gb hard drive lying around somewhere.
