The Haunted Mansion is one of Walt Disney World's oldest and most elaborate attractions.  It's able to send chills running up and down our spines and tickle our funny bones all at once.  There are more rumors about the Haunted Mansions than there are about any other ride in any of the Disney parks.  What is it that stirs our imagination?  That makes us come back year after year, sometimes just for one more trip through the graveyard in our doombuggies?  That inspires whole websites devoted to the ride?  Can that even be answered?

Pssst. Disney has FINALLY added a Disney parks store. It's not well stocked yet, and I certainly haven't seen these t-shirts there, but supposedly more merchandise is being added all the time.

My husband and I bought this comic book on our last trip to WDW. He wasn't thrilled with all of them, but loved the attention all these popular comic authors/artists paid to the ride. I'm just excited because Roman Dirge is one of them!

Hubs and I just found the coolest thing ever- in addition to Haunted Mansion Clue, Disney how has The Game of Life- Haunted Mansion style! (AKA Haunted Mansion Life) Your playing piece is a Doom Buggy, and the singing busts appear to also be 3-D figurines. Hubs is getting this for Christmas. :-)

Haunted Mansion Tips 

1.) If you're at all claustrophobic, I highly recommend going on the Haunted Mansion during the Magic Kingdom's night time parade or during the fireworks. Crowds are much smaller at this time as most families have either returned to their hotels or are watching the festivities.

2.) If you are afraid of the dark, spooky atmosphere, hold off on your tour until after dark. Your eyes will have adjusted to low light, and you'll be able to see things inside the mansion much more easily.

3.) Take the opportunity to read all the tombstones at the entrance of the mansion. Pay close attention to Madame Leota's tombstone- she's rather tricky.

4.) Try to be last out of the stretching room if you want to hear bats flapping and spooky whispers.

5.) Don't tell the butlers or maids that you're still in the stretching room because you "want to hear what the voices say". You're just opening yourself up with that one.

Welcome To The Haunted Mansion

Grim, Grinning Ghosts 

This simple song from the Haunted Mansion encompasses three of my heroes. The music was written by Buddy Baker (also wrote the music for Carousel of Progress as well as most of the older "feel good" songs. He even worked on The Jack Benny Show- how cool!), the lyrics by X Atencio (also wrote Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life For me, among others), and Thurl Ravenscroft performed the song (also Tony the Tiger and the singer on the cartoon version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas).

Did you know that...
  • The bust that looks like Walt Disney in the graveyard scene in the Haunted Mansion ride is actually supposed to be Thurl Ravenscroft.
  • The Haunted Mansion was originally intended to be a walk-through tour, and not a ride.
  • The original name of the Haunted Mansion was to be "Museum of the Weird".
  • The Haunted Mansion wasn't built while Walt Disney was alive because none of the plans the imagineers brought him suited his original idea.
  • The two head designers of the Haunted Mansion (Marc Davis and Claude Coates) couldn't agree whether the ride should be scary or funny.
