Eragon - The Epitome of a Formula Movie

Eragon wasn't a great book--it was pretty mediocre, but the movie was absolutely god awful.  It was the epitome of a "formula" story.  Young boy discovers he is more, weak attempts are made on his life, he becomes stronger and defeats a stronger, more experienced, "unbeatable" opponent to set up a sequel after a really half hearted battle scene.  The book at least indicates the young author could have a really bright future. The movie is just terrible.

My Review: Why I hate Eragon

Eragon (Widescreen Edition)

Amazon Price: $9.99 (as of 10/12/2008)

The book this movie is based on was written by a 15 year old kid whose parents were publishers. For a 15 year old, that's talent, but as can be expected it's a very bare bones cliched story that rehashes every fairy tale fantasy step by step. Bare boned, lacking depth in characters or plot, the DVD can't do much better as the acting is mediocre, and it looks like a cheaply done B movie--especially during the big battle at the end.

Go ahead, disagree. I dare you.

Is Eragon the worst film of all time?

Yeah, Eragon is TERRIBLE.

isladigital says:

You are right! The movie sucks!! However the guy who really sucks here is the writer who did the adaption from the book to the film. The convoluted order of events in the movie will make any viewer who read the book cringe at the story line.

The book is cliche but it's an entertaining read.

Ener-G says:

Terrible let down of a movie. I'll bet it was for the actors who were in it as well. I hear they ran out of money.

Arya HAD NO ELF-EARS!!! My Dog could've done better. Least she wouldn't forget the important details. The movie sucked.

Monteath says:

It's the epitome of a formulaic movie. Boy becomes hero, throw in a mystic fortune teller, older guardian angel who recognizes what he is but dies on the way, student grows up and becomes hero. Set up sequel. That's it--there was NOTHING original to this film.

You're crazy, it's not that bad.

I realize this is a lens about a poorly made movie, that obviously didn't have enough budget to make it properly. BUT the book was good, really good. Especially when you consider it was written by a 15 year old, who was home-schooled. The whole family so believed in the book, which they first self-published, that they went on the road together to promote it. THEN it was picked up by its big time publisher.
