Lady and the Tramp is a Disney movie about two dogs from different worlds. Lady is a proper cockerspaniel who lives with a well-to-do family, while Tramp is a footloose mongrel who makes his home wherever he can. They eventually fall in love and have an adventure.
This movie is probably most famous for the spaghetti and meatballs scene!

More than anything else about this movie, I love it for the charming and nostalgic time period Disney depicted. I enjoy all the little details, from "Jim Dear's" spats to the old-fashioned bric-a-brac.

When Lady is just a wee puppy, she's given to "Darling" as a Christmas present by "Jim Dear." Although Darling and Jim Dear try to take a firm hand in Lady's upbringing, in the end they can't resist pampering their little cocker spaniel.When Darling becomes pregnant, life is suddenly turned upside-down. With a baby on the way, Lady finds that she is no longer the center of Jim Dear and Darling's world.
Lady is a sweet dog, but rather sheltered and naive.

Tramp is a vagabond mutt who lives day to day as if life were one grand adventure. He has to scrounge for his food and avoid the dog catchers, but at least he's free.Tramp is apparently quite the lady's man-- er, dog. He's had dalliances with everyone from Fifi to Rosita Chiquita Juanita Chihuahua. But some hounds think that one day, he'll find the right one to settle down with. Assuming the dog catchers don't get him first!

- "Tramp" wasn't originally going to be the Tramp's name. Other names were considered: Homer, Rags, and Bozo. Apparently they decided that "Lady and the Bozo" wouldn't go over so well as a movie title.
- People were concerned about the choice to name one of the characters "Tramp." It was a bit risque for the 1950s. But Walt Disney was firm and was sure the audience could handle it.

The Siamese Cats
We are Siamese if You Please!
Although they only appear in one scene, the Siamese Cats are two of the most memorable characters in the movie.When Aunt Sarah comes over to babysit, she brings her two cats Si and Am with her. As soon as they slink out of their basket, the Siamese Cats begin to explore and destroy the house. Then they frame Lady for the mess!

Peg the Lhasa Apso

A Dog's Eye View
One of the interesting details about this film is that we see almost everything from a dog's perspective. You rarely see the faces of "Jim Dear" and "Darling," Lady's owners. In fact, we never learn their real names; we only know them through Lady's eyes.Then again, humans aren't the focus of this story. We're supposed to sympathize with Lady, Tramp, and other canine characters. Disney's decision to show most things from a dog's perspective is slightly reminiscent of the Peanuts cartoons, where you never once see an adult (but occasionally hear them say "wah wah wah").
