Week 1 of Wealthy Affiliate University can be a little overwhelming. This site just overdelivers and the amount of information is phenomenal. BUT what Kyle and Carson (the owners of Wealthy Affiliate) have done is create an 8 Week program that you can follow to make the whole thing easier.

The 8 week program is purely optional but it is highly recommended particularly if you are new to making money online.

Below you will find our diary of our first week in the program...enjoy!

We have been in the Wealthy Affiliate University program for only two days now and so far we are very impressed.

On logging in for the first time we were presented with a Dashboard which is so full of information that it was pretty overwhelming. In fact it was a little difficult to know where to start.

Having said that, we saw the big green arrow which said 'Start Here'. How could we go wrong?

This took us to The Eight Week Plan which is the Wealthy Affiliates way of taking you through all of the information and tools on the site in a logical way.

There is no need to follow the plan however as there is plenty to keep you busy on your own but we decided to follow it as that seemed to be the logical way for us to go.

The Week 1 plan takes you through the basics of explaining what affiliate marketing is and teaching you how to navigate the site. Keep in mind here that although the program teaches you the basics, from what we can tell, this course is not just for beginners by any means.

There is a wealth of information here for the beginner to even the most experienced affiliate marketer. In fact, it is probably biased a little more to someone with more experience than to an absolute beginner but from only two days on the site it is a bit hard to tell at this point.

UPDATE TO THIS COMMENT: After completing the 8 week plan we can safely say that this program is equally suited to beginners as it is to the more experienced internet marketer.

We took the time to read through the Week 1 plan and at the end we were left with some tasks for the week. This included going into the forum and reading some of the forum posts, adding some posts to the forum, setting up a personal page on the site and checking out the Learning Centre.

The Learning Centre itself is very comprehensive and again includes separate sections for beginners right through to advanced.

Although I have a bit of experience with Affiliate Marketing I found the beginners section(or Juniors section as they call it), quite beneficial and learnt a few new things that I am going to try.

After only two days on the site I am absolutely overwhelmed with information. This site is brilliant and I can't keep myself out of it. There is so much to read and the tools are amazing. I will write a little about each on a regular basis.

Today I logged in to take a closer look at the Wealthy Affiliate dashboard. This is the first thing you see when logging in. At the top of the dashboard are a variety of menu options including:

- Forum
- Site Rubix
- Hosting
- Rapid Writer
- Spaces
- Jobs
- My Linker
- Keyword Tool
- Affiliates

On the left hand side of the dashboard is another lot of menu options including:

- Learning Centre
- My WA
- 8 Week Action Plan
- Research Centre
- Marketing Materials
- Website Center
- Affiliate Program
- About Kyle & Carson
- Help

In the main content area of the dashboard are some photos of new members and links to some useful information on the site including:

- Squidoo Optimization
- Email Marketing
- Google Adwords Tweaks

Below all of this are a series of modules that can be customized to suit your needs. In other words, you can drag them around the screen, somewhat like Facebook.

The modules include:

- Forum Activity
- WA Affiliate Program Stats
- Hot Clickbank Products
- WA Space Activity
- Latest WAPedia Definitions
- WA Jobs Activity
- Hot Trends

Today I am taking a closer look at the Learning Center. This is just one of the many options available on the dashboard.

It is broken up into three areas - Junior, Intermediate and Senior. I click on the Junior tab and am taken to another page that has three tab headings:

- Guides and Tutorials
- Videos
- Downloads

I had been through the Guides and Tutorials previously so today I take a look at the Videos. There are 4 videos available here:

- How Internet Marketing Works
- The Common Keyword Technique
- Adwords Campaign Setup
- Keyword Research

So since I know how internet marketing works I think I will give that a miss. I might try The Common Keyword Technique. The video lasts for just over 9 minutes so I will have a look and provide the results here....

...okay, so it's just over 9 minutes later and I have watched the first of the videos on The Common Keyword Technique. I have to say that I learnt a lot in that 9 minutes. Basically, Carson (one of the owners of the Wealth Affiliate University) took me through setting up an Adwords campaign and how to select the keywords for it.

He used a keyword tool which is available as part of the membership to find the keywords and then showed how you narrow them down for a specific Adwords campaign. Using another tool on the site, he then put the brackets and the quotes around each of the keywords and then copied and pasted them into Adwords.

Since we have focused on natural search in the past we don't have much experience using Adwords so this video was very beneficial. I am going to go in now and create an Adwords campaign and let you all know how it goes.

Today I spent some time creating a Space. Basically, this is a place where you can add your photo, a little about yourself and set up a blog. It's the area of the site where you can chat to others and meet people.

I have been having trouble uploading a photo but I get the feeling it is my computer. Will give it a try at my office.

Well I'm getting excited because Week 2 of the Wealthy Affiliate University plan is just about to be revealed to me.

I have spent the past week reading the forum which has a wealth of information. I have also created a Space page although as yet I still can't add an image although everyone else seems to be able to. Must be a problem with my computer.

I have also created an Adwords campaign from the info provided. That's going a bit slowly because I really picked an obscure sort of product. I want to try it with more competitive keywords to see if the techniques provided make a difference.

I also created four Squidoo lenses using the tips and techniques as outlined on the Wealthy Affiliate site. So far in the past few days, for my main Wealthy Affiliate University Review lens my ranking on Squidoo has gone from around 400,000 to 18,060 which is great! For the SEO category that it is in it is currently at 524. I think that this is pretty good considering I have only been doing this for about 4 days.

So as you can see I have been really busy, but the course is so great it is easy to maintain enthusiasm.
