Layout and Content
The basic layout of the overall website should be kept consistent to make easier for the readers to follow and understand the website.
Some minor differences are allowed as long as it does not distract the attention of the readers. For instance, if all the texts are put to the right and graphics are on the left, then this pattern should be followed through out the whole website.
Having decided the layout of the website, the next process will be the content of the website itself of which should always focus on the readers and think like the readers.
Make sure the content gives answer to what readers are looking for or in another word, how the website can solve their problems.
In addition to the website content are:
Positioning and number of advertisements in the website should be balance between the content of the website.
Blinking, pop-ups and loud sound features should be avoided since it distracts and annoys the readers.
Linking to other website with similar content.
The usage of graphics which should be moderate and not overdo it.
The usage of colors so that readers are able to read the website easily. Make sure the background colors do not conflict the text and graphic colors.
The usage of fonts which should be consistent throughout the whole website.
Some commonly used fonts are Arial, Tahoma, Verdana and Times New Roman. Others are also can be applied as long as it is easy for readers to read which eventually will stay longer browsing the website.

- Great info, I recently started a trinidad website design company and some clients expected me to do full seo services after I built the website(weeks after), some wanted a refund. Based of those experiences I informed them that seo services would be an additional cost.

- I run a San Franciso website deisgn company, and one of the most useful tips I've found is to keep things to 2 fonts, 2 font sizes and 2 colors for the whole site. Often times less really is more. If you go to a site like apple.com you'll see they follow all of these rules and have very beautiful and professional looking pages.

- That's a great summary of web design. I really understand why many people find it difficult to find a web design company for their project... there are just so many companies to choose from and a lot of people really don't understand what's involved or what they will get for their money. I keep everything as simple and affordable as possible whilst producing professional and reliable websites that other web design companies charge much more for! check us out if you want a great web design service.

- These tips are great for people just starting out, and others like myself that have been working in this field for 4+ years. I also send each and every client of mine a questionnaire they fill out so I can make the planning process easier (and therefore the design+development process too). Feel free to visit my site if you need a questionnaire, I will provide this to you for free :).
