Web Design Layout and The Web User

advertising design agency :As a web designer, I have to go through a different scenario of web design every single time. Every client is different and their needs depend from person to person, industry to industry. What we get to learn is a lot and this industry is so lucrative that we never really get tired. But some times we really get engrossed on what the client wants rather than what the End user expects. Most web designers are happy to keep their clients and nod to each and every word of their client. Not many would suggest for a new thing when it comes to design and the feel of the website. The client is always right when it comes to the look and feel of the website while the designer is more concerned at getting it put across the way the client wants. Does anyone ask "Are the website VISITORS getting what they want?" . Its obvious that the client is spending a lot of money on his website, but lets accept the fact that the money he spends is to get more visitors to his website and keep them happy and keep them visiting the site. Is he succeeding on keeping his visitors once they come into the website or do they run away after the first visit or even before that? Here i try to do a run down on what exactly most visitors expect when it comes to a website, not just in terms of design but in terms of every other aspect, including trust .

Sell or Not to SEll? Is that a Question?

Its obvious everyone wants to sell to their visitors, but do your visitors really need the product you sell or are they just looking for information? Deliver to your visitors needs , Just dont try to push your product on their face with sales jargons, deals offers and a lot of things which they dont need. If they had to buy something , they surely will. But if they are looking for information now , Give it to them May be they will buy it later. They may want to shop around other places, Bookmark you and compare before they purchase. If you dont give them much of an option and put your product on their face, you are most likely to see them run before they even look at the price tag. Try to provide information. Beleive it or not, over 80% of the visitors come in for information, Some may even be your competitors but dont worry. Just give it to them. Every information they need in an orderly manner. If they feel happy, they will come back again and stick on to your site. If they dont buy today but visits your site very often, be assured that they will soon buy when there will be a need. You are known to them. They trust you, you are informative . thats why they visit you. Thats why they will buy from you.

Web design, Speed and Testing your Users Patience

Your clients may be in the best of the country with the best internet connection but speed is one big factor. Not everyone has the patience to open up a website which takes more than 5 seconds now. It was good old days when people had the patience to wait for a good one minute before an HTML page would open but today, the patience of most of the users have eroded. If your website doesn't pop up in 5 seconds or 10, you can consider yourself out of the door in less than 5 clicks unless you have something really worth delivering with no competitors. That's truly rare and you do not want to risk it in today's world. Keep your website light. No one wants Junk opening up with loads of pop up and surely not Flash or some heavy stuff which expects you to download strange softwares. If your website requires that the user download XYZ software or if its heavy and does not open in a few seconds, You may need to consider a redo.

Whats recommended? Well a light web page. Text and images which would be in place in less than 10 seconds (trust me its achievable in most cases). There should be a few exceptions. A very few and its truly based on the industry.

A design company, (interior designers and web designers with online brochures & e-brochures) may need to put in things a lot more attractively than most of the other websites. These websites can take a bit of time , but get creative and make sure that the users are awed. If the user looses interest in whats coming, you will soon find yourself in trouble with very little visitors and no orders. Keep them busy, Keep their eyes on the screen.

Bond with the User. Create a trust chain.

Its hard but you have to make the web visitor trust you. You dont have all day and you dont have a way of convincing your visitors to buy your product. The users are free to move around and you have no choice but to deliver content to the visitor. If the visitor feels bored, he will move on. If he is not happy and does not find what he wants , he will move on. if he doesnt trust you, he will not buy it even if he finds what he wants. Think about it... You give the best product for the best price but there is no phone number on the website. No contact details, not even a name!!! would you buy it for even the price of a Dollar? you start with a question... what if? what if i pay now but my product is not delivered. What if i get a broken product? what if this what if that... Do i even know the person on the other end of the website?

Trust... build it as much as you can. State your name, put in contact details and be reachable. Put your photograph if you can put in your IM details. Get creative and build trust. Think of your options and get creative. Get social. There is no better way to sell a product than by going totally transparent. Make your visitors comfortable. BUILD TRUST.
