Web hosting: Los Angeles Area -- My Top Three Choices
I have personally tested all of these web hosts - thumbs up!
- This is an excellent web hosting company, I never see any negatives about this hosting provider and they've worked great for me also.
InMotion Hosting is an employee-owned host which has been in business since 2001, it offers high quality shared web hosting.
This hosting company also provides managed VPS hosting at a competitive price.
Lunarpages
- This is a well-known web hosting provider with an excellent reputation. I have a web site hosted with them myself, which has had 100% uptime for several months.
If you need Windows-based hosting this is your choice, since they offer both Unix and Windows hosting plans.
DreamHost
- Also an employee-owned company which has been in the business for many years.
DreamHost has a very friendly and personal profile. My own experiences with them have also been top-notch. You can't help but like this host!

InMotion Hosting: an LA Web Host Liked By Everybody
All thumbs up for this one
Right, amazingly I haven't been able to locate a single instance of bad feedback about InMotion Hosting.Apart from being popular, this host also offers nice features - like a free domain included with your hosting package. This means you save about $10-20 right there.
Speaking of domains: you can also host up to 6 different domains on your account if you choose the $6.95/month Business Hosting plan.
OK, now I've said so many nice words about InMotion Hosting - in all fairness, I should add that Lunarpages and DreamHost also give you a free domain if you are kind enough to give them your business!
More about them here below (read on):
Lunarpages Is Another Great Los Angeles Web Host
Stellar performance - 100% uptime!
This is monitored thru an independent service which automatically contacts my site every few minutes to see if it works.
It is rather impressive to have no downtime at all for such a long period of time. Usually any web site goes down a few minutes sometimes, due to maintainance and such things. An uptime of 99.9% is generally considered very good.
Another thing about Lunarpages that is special: this host offers both Unix and Windows web hosting plans. In case you got confused now: Unix-type operating systems are the most commonly used in a server environment. And it works great - except if you would like to run certain Windows-specific stuff like (notably) ASP. If you don't know what ASP is, don't worry - you are not going to need it!
For those actually using ASP, Windows hosting is preferable.
OK, and to round this off I figured I'd include an example of how Lunarpages advertise themselves.
Nice rundown of the features they currently offer, and note how well the colors blend in with the Squidoo logo color!
DreamHost is a Friendly LA Web Host
I like their sense of humour!
Indeed, I remember the story of that power outage. The whole building where their servers were housed lost power, and then a backup generator failed. Those generators were managed by a third party - but still a bit embarrassing for DreamHost...What is characteristic of DreamHost is that they can joke about it! Most other web hosts would try to sweep a mishap like that under the rug, so to speak.
And here below is an example of their humorous advertising banners:

Another thing: is DreamHost really a Los Angeles Web Hosting Company? No, I was just making that up. Actually, they are located in a nice city called Brea... which just happens to be one of the better suburbs of Los Angeles...
