Is Website Audio Giving Competitors An Advantage?
Tests Show Bad Website Audio and or No Audio at all Drives Your Customers Away!
Everyone knows that having audio on your website increases visitor response, but a select group of people have discovered that bad website audio can actually have the opposite effect. Not only that many visitors are getting bored when they land on silent websites! ZZZZZ!
That's why we created putvoiceonyourwebsite.com
We've been solving audio on websites for quite awhile now, and for the first time ever it's totally affordable!
Does Audio Affect Your Sales Copy?
What would a mime on the streets of Amsterdam say?
Some clients want rock and roll for their music tracks, others want piano. It all depends on what you're selling and who your selling to, or who your niche is.
Audio sells product! Just the radio stations here in Atlanta pull in more than $80,000,000 a year combined in radio commercial sales. I doubt that money would be spent if it didn't work.
Next time you watch TV listen to the commercial and watch the visual and concentrate on what the client is trying to get across to you the viewer.
Imagine turning on the TV and only seeing visuals without the audio. Wow, that's probably the same as going to a website without audio.
How could you not have a professional greeting or commercial on your site? It doesn't seem logical to have a site with zero interaction.
Listen and learn from marketers like Jay Jennings, and Josh Anderson. They know their stuff when it comes to audio and have developed great audio tools for those who want to get audio on their sites.
Go to my site, and click on some links of my clients and see how they use audio. Some have the audio start as soon as you land on their site. Others give the option for visitors to click on the audio.
Anyway, I'm probably pretty much biased when it comes to audio on a site, having spent my entire life in it. But I will say this, I'm damn glad the technology exists now to be able to place it on there if that's what you want. If audio wasn't available, everyone would want it.
One other point on this. The audio may be perceived differently from a site visitor depending on the quality and whether or not it was produced by a professional.
I just completed a project for a camtasia presentation. The client had his voice on the videos and asked if I would replace his audio with our voice over and include back ground music. He's so happy, that he won't let me mention his site because he doesn't want his competiton to know about our services.
Spend money on graphics, sales copy, and product, and then do the audio yourself? That could come back to bite you in the rear end. So when you discuss the virtues of audio please make sure you mention whether or not the audio is professionaly produced or done by an amatuer.
Audio on a website?
I can't hear you! Anybody Home?
Statistics say that at least 30% of the population are auditory by nature so if someone comes to your site and is not a reader you loose.
The little bit of extra time it takes to produce a good audio to sumerise what you offer can make a big difference. Lets face it this is just another graphic on your site in reality people can choose to click or not.
Most people are already listening to the radio and watching TV so are naturally looking for an experience and if you cant provide it then you will miss out.
We did a survey last year and it was shown that people who listen to audio or watch video are far more likley to buy than any one else online. This was backed up by another survey early in 2001.
Another interesting comment was that people are paying all this money to have multimedia computers and so many marketers will not let them exerience it and lots of users feel ripped off. Thats why Youtube etc is doing so well.
Streamies, those users who watch or listen to streaming online, represent 44% of all Internet users and 27% of Americans overall. By far, streamies are the most valuable consumer group on the Internet. Streaming media consumers are far more interactive, are more oriented to e-commerce and spend more time online compared with Internet users who don't stream." (Edison Media Study, Jan. 2001)
I will always go with the trends and what the people want rather than what I feel or think.
Can I use my own voice on my site instead of a professional?
It depends on what you're selling and how you're selling it!
I also think it is important to put on pages that you give instructions on. How much more responsive is a person going to be if you tell them what to do, rather than them just reading it off a page?
Plus, having audio makes you sound more like a real person that has a solution, rather than just a machine trying to sell something. It can be a great way to brand your name a bit, get your customers used to your voice.
Web Audio Poll
Do you already use audio on your website and if so what kind?
Should you voice your own audio for your website?
I can save money if I do it my self
You can also find a large number of ebooks that show you step by step how to record your audio and how to place it on your website with no monthly fees.
So why not do it yourself? Why hire a professional?
Well, if you're paying professionals to launch various websites or just one, odds are you're not the one that's doing the graphics for your site. If you're selling a product or service with a sales page you're not writing the copy for the site either.
You want your site to look good, stand out among the pack, and you want the site to be able to sell what you're selling. That's why you hire someone else to do it.
So lets take a moment to visualize your site. It looks great, and your friends, family, and peers in the business give you all kinds of kudos for its appearance. You even begin to make sales, but you're thinking that something's missing.
You want to keep up with the competition so you decide to purchase audio software. You write out something and then voice it and place it on your site.
How do you think that sounds to visitors? They see this beautiful website and hear an untrained voice talk about the site. Yuck.
If the voice sounds untrained and monotone, then the visitor is subconciously thinking that site looks more credible than it sounds or than it is presented. This throws up flags and before you know it the visitor is gone and you haven't gotten the sale.
Here's one scenario that you may have not thought of. The site depicts the perception that the company has been around for years, or that the person representing him or herself is a seasoned veteran.
Then all of a sudden, as a visitor, you click on the Play Audio button and you hear a voice that sounds too young to match the site.
Most internet marketers have sites that look very mature and sell mature products, but the owner is probably under 25 and sounds like it.
So a visitor here's pauses, and a bunch of uhms, and uhs, and then the voice starts saying the word like over and over again. "I was like, really excited about this like software." Uhm, and uhm it's really robust, like really awesome."
Once your visitor hears this and then a couple of "omigoshes" thrown in for good measure, that person is gone.
We, as humans, just can't be all things to all people. Sure we can learn to do most anything, but we can we really be excellent in everyt

Audio Effects Make a Difference!
Taking audio creativity to the next level!
Most sites don't use audio!
Its because the technology didn't exist until recently
Here's why. Up until now the technology didn't exist and not only that, but the price to hire a professional to voice audio production for a website was sky high and cost prohibitive.
Well, with the advent of upscale audio production software and microphones as well as pre produced music, those days are over.
Already we're seeing a rise in business from website owners that would have never even entertained the idea of audio on their website.
At last its affordable for everyone and boy what a difference it can make in sales and credibility!

Fetching new data from eBay now... please stand byWords and Habits To Avoid When Doing Your Own Voice Overs!
Yikes, have you listened to yourself?
I watched a 3 minute power point presentation that was voiced by the creater of the product on the power point. The person said the word "UHM" 37 times in a 3 minute presentation. "UHM" was placed at the beginning of sentences, and in the middle of the sentences. Just about everywhere with no method to the madness.
Another no no! Do not even think about using the phrase "OMIGOSH" or is that a word? Who really knows.
The same "rule" applies to using the following: "Whatever", and "I was like" Don't be tempted to use them.
That may be what and how people are talking right now trying to sound like their peers, but there's no room for that kind of "cool speak" in an audio presentation.
One other habit that many people are using in their online audios? Non Professionals that is: Notice that they're saying their words in a staccato fashion that makes them sound younger than they really are.
Young is good, unless you're trying to maintain credibility. If you sound like a teenager by talking like one, then you will lose credibilty.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with teens, but adults trying to sound like a teenager in the way they present themselves through audio? Not cool, and probably a turn off to many.
Hope these random thoughts help you when trying to do your own audios.
