Creating a Website
This lens will look at how to create a website from scratch. It is aimed at those who will are looking to make money online, although a lot of it will be of interest to those who have websites and want to monetise them.
It may seem pretty obvious ideas to some of you, to others it will all sound new. I have written this to help the newcomers to the World of Internet marketing, though it is still worth reading for all who want to make money from building websites.
Creating a website
Creating a website from scratch is a time consuming and mentally challenging task for anyone. From the humble origins of the idea, through the website layout and design to the finishing touches of adding your ads, banners, adsense or links.Whenever a new product comes out with a new fangled way of making website creation easier and less time consuming I always have to go and have a look. Mostly I am disappointed. They promise the world in a basket and end up giving you a papermache ball in a bag.
What I mean is, they make promises they cannot keep. Content Generators which create websites in seconds, have been around for years and many people have bought the software hoping that it will give them an edge in an agressive affiliate marketer market. The unfortunate truth is nothing but hard work, no breaks and plenty of inner steel can create high calibre websites in such a short space of time.
Now, don't get me wrong, Content Generators work well for many people. There is a use for them in creating thousands of Keyword rich websites in a short space of time. Professional Internet entrepreneurs use them for short term gain in the adsense market. They plug them with links and watch them work their way to the top of the SERP's (Search Engine Results Page's) gaining revenue in Adsense clicks.
The problem is that these websites will fall by the wayside in a matter of months, as soon as Google, Yahoo and the like realise they are mass produced sites designed to fool their bots. The Sites created are wonderful for bots to crawl, but to the human visitor the sites are horrible.
As I said, this works very well for some people, but for those of you wanting to create respectable websites with good quality content, this is a definate NO NO!
Website creation takes time and nothing will alter that fact. You can make things easier for yourself however....
What will you need?
Software
When creating a website you will firstly need a plan of action. If you leave everything to chance then the likelihood of you forgetting something is high, organisation is the key.As previously said, creating a website is time consuming and a lot of hard work. Trying to find a way to create high quality websites in minutes is a waste of time as I have said. There are however ways to save time, which we will go into later on.
To create a website you will need software which will allow you to actually create a website. There are many products you can choose from and which one you use will depend on your preferences and needs.
Website Creation Software
- Adobe Dreamweaver
- This software is considered the ultimate in Website creation, though the price is higher than many beginners would be prepared to pay. It has many great features that many other software packages do not have. These are not necessarily needed for basic websites but can come in handy later on. The daddy of website creation.
- Serif WebPlus 10
- Not as big as Dreamweaver and not nearly as comprehensive, but this product is a favourite with many website builders. It is easy to use and has many built in functions that will help with website creation. All for a fraction of the cost of Dreamweaver.
- Microsoft Frontpage 2003
- This is a basic and easy to use HTML editor that many people use for website creation. It can be, I find, a bit confusing when it comes to adding certain effects, though this is something that can be dealt with easily with a bit of practice. The HTML editor is perfect for me and many other people. I use this in conjunction with other Website building software.
- Microsoft Expression Web
- This is the latest offering from Microsoft and has many new features that you could only dream of when using the old Frontpage program. I have a few friends who use this product and are very happy with it, though for the newbie, Frontpage would be a better option. If you are looking for an advanced program you shouldn't look beyond Dreamweaver.
What will you need?
Content

This is the most important part of any website....Period!
If you are going to a) rank highly in the SERP's (Search Engine Results Page's), b) be of interest to your sites visitor and c) make sales, then you are going to need content.
People all across the web harp on about decent content for your websites, which is why the Content Generators are no good for long term websites.
Finding articles, pictures, graphics and designing a header for your website takes time. A lot of time! There is no getting around this fact....or is there?
There is a package on the market called the Paragon Profit System, which is really four products in one. Created by Lindann Services it is a package designed to give you a head start in creating your website.
It comes with four packs, containing 1,500 professional graphics in part one, 500 royalty free photographs in part two, 100 professional and well written articles in part three and in part four 100 professional website headers.
What will you need?
Website Hosting and Domain Names
Once you have your site built and ready, you will need to host it on a hosting server and have a domain name to lead your visitors to the site. Different options are available to you as the webmaster and you should make sure you pick the host that suits you and your site. Most Hosting services have different size hosting plans on offer, these range from $10 a month to well over $100. These will vary in size and speeds, and this is something you should be aware of.
The size of the plan will dictate how much you can put up on to the server. Lower end plans vary and can be anything from 5GB to 300GB.
The monthly bandwidth allowance is like fuel for your car. You need it to run and if you run out then no one can visit your website. This is a very important part of the hosting plan. Roughly speaking 1GB of bandwidth will be used up with 100,000 hits.
Some plans, usually on the lower end of the price plan, only allow 1 domain name to be attached. As you go up the price scale then more are allowed.
One thing of great importance is the level of control you have over your hosting plan. For example GoDaddy, one of the biggest hosting servers, does not allow you access to a control panel. This could hinder you in the future, so think carefully about your needs. You can always ask the sales desk if you are unsure.
Some of the better Hosting Service Providers
- iPowr Hosting
- Small starter plans start at $3.95 per month. This is a great place to buy domain names. Well, its where I buy them. Some of their packages give you credit with Google and Yahoo.
- Host Gator
- One of the best hosting providers I have come across. Full access to the Contol Panel and some great features. Very reasonable pricing too.
- Host Rocket
- Host Rocket are very similar to Host Gator, though their dedicated server plans are cheaper. Another great service provider.
- GoDaddy
- GoDaddy are one of the biggest Hosting providers in the World. Many top gurus and webmasters use their service. I have always found the lack of a control panel a hindrance, but many people find their packages suitable to their kind of website. Prices are good here too.
So you have created your site!
The hard work of actually creating your website is the part which will take the largest amount of effort and time. Using the Paragon Profit System will help save a lot of time, giving you valuable start up resources to reduce the time frame in which it takes to start your site from scratch. The price is very reasonable too, so it is not going to bite into your budget too much.
Preparing what domain name and hosting plan you will purchase in advance, will also save you time in the long run. As everyones needs and preferences differ I cannot say which plan would suit you. You are best off looking into the various providers and find the best one suited to you. The four stated above are good starting platforms for this research.
