Tracking traffic to your web site!

I want to share with you the web tracking software that I've been using for about 4-5 years now. It's FREE to use and you get a wealth of traffic information regarding visitors to your web site. You can create a project per web site. A project is simply a collection of statistics for a particular web site. The best thing about this is that it's not just for your web site. This can be used for your Squidoo lens, blogs and can be used on your items you are selling on eBay. I've actually have different projects set up for each of these web sites. The name of this service is StatCounter.com. You can check out their demo.

Guess what!? I'm watching you! I've actually set up a StatCounter.com project for the Squidoo lens to see where the traffic is coming from.

1. Sign up for the StatCounter service and we'll give you a tiny piece of HTML and Javascript code to insert into your webpage.

2. When a visitor visits your webpage with the installed HTML and Javascript code, their anonymous details are sent to StatCounter to be recorded. Their details are gathered either from the counter the visitor loads from StatCounter, or an invisible image depending on your settings. This action takes place instantaneously and the user is completely oblivious and unaffected by it. StatCounter has invested a great deal of time and money to ensure that this load time is instant. The load time experienced by your visitor is monitored daily and we are continually adding more dedicated servers as we grow to ensure instantaneous responses.

Important Privacy Note: StatCounter.com respects your privacy, and the privacy of your visitors. Personally identifiable information such as visitor's name, telephone number, postal address and email address are technically impossible for StatCounter to collect and no attempt is made to do so. The information that is recorded consists of the date and time of visit, ip address, browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0), operating system version (e.g. Windows 2000), screen resolution (e.g. 800x600), referring link, the current page url and the current page title. A small cookie is created with no personally identifiable information to determine whether a visitor has been to your website before (e.g. a first-time or returning visitor).

3. The data we collect is then processed and analyzed by us and stored in our database servers.

4. This is the fun bit! You can then log into your account anytime night or day to monitor and view your visitors and stats in real-time!
