Al Gore's Challenge to the Nation - July 17, 2008
On July 17, 2008 at D.A.R. Constitution Hall in Washington D.C., Former Vice President Al Gore gave a speech in which he called for a "man on the moon" approach to the solving the problem of global warming. He challenged the nation to take bold steps towards solving the climate crisis.In this historic speech he encouraged the United States switch all of the nation's electricity production to wind, solar and other carbon-free sources within 10 years.
This goal would not only help solve global warming but also the economic and natural security crises caused by dependence on fossil fuels.
According to Gore "The leading experts predict that we have less than 10 years to make dramatic changes in our global warming pollution lest we lose our ability to ever recover from this environmental crisis."

Al Gore, in his book and movie An Inconvenient Truth gave us all the following wake up call:
You look at that river gently flowing by. You notice the leaves rustling with the wind. You hear the birds; you hear the tree frogs. In the distance you hear a cow.
You feel the grass. The mud gives a little bit on the river bank. It's quiet; it's peaceful.
And all of a sudden, it's a gear shift inside you. And it's like taking a deep breath and going,
"Oh yeah, I forgot about this."
He goes on to note that:

- We can solve it if we enact a carbon tax. Either we need to jack up the price of fossil fuels so alternatives can compete, or we need to develop alternatives that are as cheap as fossil fuels. The latter is speculative. The former is deterministic.

- Green living and being good stewards of the earth are the important things to remember and to do. Global warming is no hoax and people need to stop throwing up the "Al Gore has a huge carbon footprint" smoke screen every time his name is mentioned. This is a fabulous and truthful lens. - Great lens, an important cause. People need to understand that green living = frugal living, something most of our ancestors practiced. - I appreciate the sentiment and spirit of this lens. However this organization, being an "effort" of the alarmist and hypocritical Al Gore is immediately shed of any credibility.
