Planning a wedding in 6 months takes a lot of moving up the time line of when to pay for what, but if you've got a wedding budget breakdown in place then you won't be pressured into spending more on a certain area of your wedding.

    Bride's & Groom's Apparel 5 - 10%
    ( learn ways to save money on wedding dress and be closer to the 5%!)
    Reception (Site, Food, Beverages, Etc.) 40 - 50%
    Flowers 10%
    Photography / Videography 10 - 13%
    Music & Entertainment 5 - 10%
    Wedding Rings 7 - 15%
    Wedding Planner 10 -15%
    Miscellaneous (Transportation, Officiant Fees, Invitations, Etc.) 10%
    Cushion 5 - 10%
    (don't forget to add this one for unexpected expenses)

Remember these percentages are only the average wedding budget breakdown.

So what do you do with this information?

To help you decide which percentage of your wedding budget goes into which categories, take a look at the wedding expenses list you'll need to include on your wedding budget breakdown.

How to Allocate Money into the Wedding Budget Breakdown

First Step In Obtaining Your Wedding Budget Breakdown

First step is to know your budget. I will show what I did with my $7,500 budget.

    Budget $7,500

Second Step - Rate Wedding Expenses List in Order of Importance!

Next take all categories and rate them in order of importance and the percentage you are willing to spend. Make sure at the end it totals 100%.

Here is what my wedding budget breakdown looked like:

    Reception ................................................................35%
    Flowers .....................................................................10%
    Photography / Videography ...................................10%
    Music & Entertainment ...........................................10%
    Wedding Rings ........................................................10%
    Miscellaneous ..........................................................10%
    Cushion .....................................................................10%
    Bride's & Groom's Apparel .......................................5%
    Total ...........................................................................100%


Now that you've rated your expenses based on importance it is time to move onto the next step.

Last Step To Get To Your Wedding Budget Breakdown Amounts

You'll need to take your overall wedding budget and times them by the percentage amounts from above. Below you'll see how I came up with my wedding budget breakdown.


    Bride's & Groom's Apparel ......................................$7,500 X .05 ( 5%) = $ 375.00
    Reception ...................................................................$7,500 X .35 (35%) = $2,625.00
    Flowers .......................................................................$7,500 X .10 (10%) = $ 750.00
    Photography / Videography .....................................$7,500 X .10 (10%) = $ 750.00
    Music & Entertainment ........................................... $7,500 X .10 (10%) = $ 750.00
    Wedding Rings......................................................... $7,500 X .10 (10%) = $ 750.00
    Miscellaneous ..........................................................$7,500 X .10 (10%) = $ 750.00
    Cushion .....................................................................$7,500 X .10 (10%) = $ 750.00


After you've completed the above wedding budget breakdown it is now time to look at the wedding expenses list to see how much to you can spend for each item in each of the above categories.

If you do not like the numbers above and feel that you need to spend more, you can always adjust them until they fit your needs. Also, if you start pricing out services and products and find that you've miscalculated the amount you'll need, again you can always rearrange the categories.

If you pick a family friend to take pictures, make sure that they have done a wedding before or that they know what you expect of them. Otherwise you might be disappointed because certain memories were not captured.

For instance if you'd like a front view of you walking down the aisle make sure you tell them that. This will alleviate any hurt feelings or feelings of disappointment when you get the images.

    I well remember working on daughter's wedding budget with her. I cannot imagine trying to plan a wedding without a budget, but I am sure many couples do just that. Your information is so helpful for folks planning a wedding.
