Italian Favors Never Looked So Good!

D'Lusso Home Collections Offers Elegant & Practical Imported Favors

The D'Lusso Home Collection is a series of fine Italian imported wedding favors. From tea cup sets to oil bottles and cheese spreaders - and everything in between.

Italian favors aren't just for Italian weddings! There's an elegance and style associated with these favors and your guests will appreciate the craftsmanship (and that they were imported from Europe rather than China.)

Not only are these favors beautiful, they're practical. Whether you choose to give a tea cup set or a spoon rest, your gift is one that's likely to be used rather than tossed. Help guests remember your day every time they serve pasta or make a cappuccino.

If you ARE throwing an Italian themed wedding, you'll stay in theme while giving your guests with a Thank You gift which shows your ethnicity.

Whether you opt for the elegance of a porcelain heart shaped bowl, or something more casual like an olive oil decanter, you'll have made the right choice.

D'Lusso Home Collection favors are available at FavorBonanza.

New Favors Announced From Several Companies

As 2009 Approaches, New Products are Unveiled

As we get closer to the new year, several wedding favor wholesalers have already started unveiling new products. Though many of them may not be readily available until February 2009, it's great to get the sneak peek at what's coming for the next year.

Weddingstar has added MANY new products, including but not limited to:

* Mini Treasure Chest Favor Boxes - made of wood with adorable "map" finish.

* Mini Oval Wrapped Paper Favor Boxes - elegant oval favor boxes with grosgrain ribbon embellishment.

* Smooth Sailing Magnet Favors - sailboat-shaped magnets for boat lovers or those going on a cruise for their honeymoon or holding a destination wedding.

* Mini Cow Candles Couple in Barnyard Gift Box - a new spin on their popular cow candles, these now come in an adorable little barn gift box.

* White Heart-Shaped Purse Hook Favors - a great gift for sweet 16 parties or bridal showers, these trendy-yet-sturdy purse hooks keep your purse off of the floor.

Some of the new items from Lillian Rose include:

* Bath Confetti in Candy Tube with Ribbon - a "sweet" little green-tea-scented bath gift which is great for showers, birthdays, or weddings and comes in blue, pink, or white.

* Bath Caviar Favors - Heart-shaped bottles of white, blue, or pink bath caviar - perfect for baby showers, bridal showers, or weddings.

* Blown Glass Snowflake Bottle Stopper Favors - an exquisite favor for winter weddings.

While other vendors are a little less eager to divulge their 2009 product secrets, we have found a few hiding within their web sites. When they "officially" announce them, you'll find the list here.

Why Does Everyone Offer the Same favors?

Let's face it - visit any wedding favor retailer online and you're bound to see many of the same favors you saw on all of the others you've visited. There isn't much unique to choose from anymore.

Why is that? Where are they all coming from?

There are several well-known brands in wedding favors. Most of them offer drop shipping services for the retailer. This means, when you - the consumer - buys an item from the retailer, it's actually being shipped to you directly from the manufacturer/importer and NEVER sees the retailer. There are good points to this, and negatives too.

OUT OF STOCK. When wedding favors are drop-shipped to a majority of vendors, you'll find that when one is out of stock, they all are. The advantage to finding a retailer who self-stocks is that they'll have an inventory of your favorite favor when no one else does.

MINIMUM ORDER. Many retailers must meet a minumum order requirement. They will pass on this requirement to their customers. So if the wholesale drop shipper says 48 must be purchased by the retailer, then you will be forced to buy 48. If the vendor self-stocks, they can buy the minimum and then set their own requirements for the customer.

SAMPLES. Many drop shippers won't send out just one item because it isn't cost-effective. Self-stocked retailers will usually send out a sample.

Who are the popular wedding favor brands, and which ones drop ship? Here's the top list:

    1. Fashioncraft
Fashioncraft-Excello, Inc. is wholesale-only and offers free drop shipping but has some high product minimums.
    2. Kate Aspen
Kate Aspen is wholesale-only, offers free drop-shipping, no minimum order, and premium automated shopping carts.
    3. Cassiani Collection
Cassiani Collection is part of DC Imports and offers free drop-shipping.
    4. Event Blossom
Event Blossom is wholesale only and offers free dropshipping with no minimums except on personalized items.
    5. Weddingstar
Weddingstar retails directly to consumers and also wholesales to vendors, with drop-shipping that incurs a per-order fee.
    6. Wedding Belle Favors
Wedding Belle favors is a small business with handmade items and offers free drop shipping.
    7. Hortense B. Hewitt
Hortense B. Hewitt is wholesale only and offers drop shipping with a per-order fee.
    8. Lillian Rose
Lillian Rose is wholesale only, has very few favors (is mostly other wedding supplies,) and charges for drop shipping.
    9. Beverly Clark
Beverly Clark is wholesale only and offers drop shipping with a per-order fee.
    10. WeddingShip
WeddingShip is wholesale only and offers free drop shipping with no minimum on most products.

As a consumer, the drop ship fee should matter to you. It means the price of the items will be higher to cover the associated wholesale costs. Items from wholesalers who offer free drop shipping will usually have a lower retail cost, since there is less expense for the retailer when ordered.

There are several other wholesale favor vendors, but I can't divulge all of my secrets!

    Great Wedding Magazines

Magazines you might like! I subscribed to Brides and Modern Bride and found them very helpful. Especially for gown pictures!

"Check My Mate" King & Queen Candle Favors

Bride & Groom Candle Favors Shaped Like Chess Pieces!

I don't know if chess is as popular now as it was in the 80's and 90's, (remember Bobby Fischer?) but these bride and groom king and queen chess piece candles are certainly unique and adorable!

Newly launched by Fashioncraft (a wholesale importer of wedding and party favors,) this pair of bride and groom chess piece candles comes in a gift box fit for royalty.

I have to admit, I did meet one of my high school boyfriends in chess club. Back then, I was considered a little geeky for playing chess. I don't know if that stigma has changed, but I would imagine people appreciate safer, intellectual hobbies like that a bit more.

These candle favors are great for couples who love to play chess, but they're also great for fairytale themed weddings - since they're a king and queen, and chess was popular in renaissance times.

Fashioncraft definitely came out with a truly unique favor (as I haven't seen anything like these on any other popular favor brand web sites,) and I think they'll be a big hit.

Available at FavorBonanza.com for as low as $1.35 each!

    Favor Buying 101

Tips to Buying the Right Favors

Whether you're hosting a casual wedding of 50 people, an 8-person beachside luau, or an elegant affair of 300+ black tie guests, we can help you find the right reception favors.

Follow these simple rules and your guests will be delighted:

    1. KEEP IT PERSONAL

A favor is a keepsake to commemorate your day. Make sure it's really something people will associate with you. Personalize it! If you're not opting for personalized favors, you should be sure people won't be asking, "Whose wedding did we get this at?" three years down the road.

As a couple, or individually, people surely associate you with a certain style, hobby or other interest. Think about what those things might be, Poll friends and family about what makes them think of you. You want a wedding favor that will align with your personality AND your soul.
Idea: Met online? Give a personalized mouse pad or keyboard magnet.

    2. BUDGET BUDGET BUDGET

Create a favor budget and stick to it! It's fun looking at all of the choices, but be careful. It's not hard for your favor purchase to quickly turn into $1000.00 if you're caught up in what's trendy or "cute," and not what's realistic. However - on the flip side - don't be too stuck on saving a buck, either. The rule of thumb is that if the favor costs under $1.00, it likely LOOKS like it cost under $1.00. Guests will be able to check up on you if you opt for cookie-cutter-made-in-china favors that are all over the Internet.

If you spend too little, you may hear negative rumblings instead of seeing appreciative smiles. If you spend too much, you'll probably have to adjust your budget elsewhere and skimp on another area of importance - like the guest book or the ring pillow. Be realistic when setting your budget - in the way of what you can afford, AND what "decent" favors typically cost.

    3. PICK A THEME!

There's nothing more pleasing to guests and the bridal party, than seeing a theme throughout a ceremony and reception. It shows that you put time AND thought into the "little details."

Hosting a beach luau reception after seaside vows? Stick with favors that match - AND match your decorations and tableware. Hosting a formal Italian affair after a big Catholic Ceremony? Choose Italian-imported favors set on a favor table rather than at each place setting. Hosting a black-tie affair? You wouldn't give just Jordan Almonds wrapped in tulle! Opt for crystal favors.

    The themes are limitless!

    4. DON'T INVOLVE YOUR PARENTS

We love them, but this is YOUR day. It's often very easy for a guest to tell that your "mother must have picked those." How inpersonal! You can ask for oppinions, but be sure the choice is FULLY yours. Don't settle just to avoid a dispute.

    5. PRACTICALITY

Pick favors that your guests can and will use. They CAN be practical AND beautiful. Be sure the favors you select will be widely received - meaning, they're not just something YOU like but will get tossed in the trash as people walk out the door. Pick something that you think EVERYONE at your wedding will enjoy. Some practical favor examples are themed cookie cutters, vases, crystal candy dishes, kitchen timers, photo holders (place card holders,) coffee scoops, or even olive oil bottles.

    6. TRENDS

Be aware of trends, but don't be too stuck in them. For instance, "going green" is IN, and opting for plantable seed favors or bio-degradable favor boxes is a great idea. But don't SHOUT OUT that you went green. And don't overkill.

    7. OVER BUY

It may cost you a few extra dollars, but they're well worth it. You never know when you might need extras - in case of breakage during shipping, discoloration, ink or foil problems, or last-minute-YES-replies. Plus - don't forget to get a few extra for yourself! You'll definately want a keepsake or two from the most important day of your life.

These are just SOME of the many things to consider when buying your wedding reception favors. We hope this helps and that your event is even more beautiful than you've imagined it!

    Back When I Got Married...

We had to get creative about the favors

My now-husband and I wanted to stay inexpensive and unique. It was 2005 and I was browsing online favor shops, while he was thinking of ways we could construct our own favors for much less money.

We took a trip to the Yankee Candle Company's huge warehouse store in Deerfield, MA a few months before our wedding. We were looking for Christmas ornaments before the season began. We found a few, but our biggest find was a totally unexpected one - our wedding favors!

In the clearance room was a shelf filled with hundreds of candle-toppers marked 49 cents. As I approached, I was shouting gleefully, "Honey, I just found our favors!" They were glass, almost in snow-globe fashion, and they were filled with champagne bottles, silver gifts, doves, and gold wedding bands! Sadly, others heard my shout and flocked to where I stood. He ran to help me and we grabbed handfuls at a time, shoving them into our cart. I didn't care about whether they were broken or defective - I just needed to be sure we'd have enough. Our wedding list was 190 people and we figured at least 180 would show.

As we emptied the shelf, another couple glared at us. Their measly little cart of about 20 looked sickly next to ours. We had done a great job of cleaning house.

We sifted through to see if they were broken. We put about 5 back on the shelf and left with 185 of them.

When we got home, I started thinking of ways we could make them into place card holders. We'd set them all at a main reception table with the guestbook and let our guests find their name and table assignment. I decided to hot-glue white satin ribbon around them and then hole-punch some place cards I had gotten at the local craft shop. I printed the place cards in my deskjet printer and we spent a night glueing and punching. It was a creative endeavor for both of us, (and as Libras with the same birthday, we both enjoyed it very much!) We talked about our upcoming day and shared our expectations and hopes. It was magical.

Most of our guests didn't know what the candle toppers were. Afterwards, my Mother told me that everyone was asking her if they were paperweights. She said it was a rather stupid (her words) favor, since most people in our family don't burn candles. But we thought it was perfect. And if they wanted to use them as paperweights - what a novel idea!

Do you think everyone should give a wedding favor to their guests?

    Yes

    FavorMama says:

I think it depends on the venue, the guests, and your budget. Obviously, destination weddings can probably do without favors, while big Italian affairs MUST give them! Ultimately, it's up to the bride and groom to decide if they feel favors would enhance or detract from their theme, and if their budget will allow.

    No
