Instruction for building wedding web sites.

"What do I know about making wedding web sites", I thought.

Luckily a really sweet friend of mine gave me so much help getting my wedding site off the ground that I wanted to take a moment to help others who are in the same situation. I was a total internet newbie and after I got a little push in the right direction I was addicted to updating my site for the biggest event of my life.

You can do it too. No doubt about it. Just follow my lead!!

www.designourday.com was the website I used. Check it out.

My phone was ringing off the hook!!! and I was too busy to answer it.

A wedding web site was the answer. Just didn't know how to start!

Hi everyone. I'm here to tell you my story about how a very non-technical woman challenged herself to get online and create a website for my wedding.

Let me start by telling you what drove me to create a site for my wedding: My phone was ringing off-the-hook! "What time again" "Where are you registered" "What are the direction to the reception" "Can I give you a new car for your wedding" (ok, the last one I never actually got and I wouldn't have minded actually answering it). You get the idea. Not only was I planning the biggest event I've ever planned but I was answering the same question over and over.

One of my girlfriends Suzy, who lives in a big city and is much more technically inclined than me, had a cute little website for her wedding and it was pretty obvious that this was the solution. But where to start? I did a search and found so many different sites offering an easy way to get my wedding online but I was still a little nervous. So, I called my friend Suzy.

She directed me to the site she used called Design our Day. Lucky for me she is one of the nicest people I know so she sat with me and helped me get started right there on the phone! One of the reasons I'm writing this (can you tell how much more comfortable I am online now!!) is to help all those who need a good friend to help.

Review of wedding web sites vendors

this was a no-brainer

Before I had the brains to call Suzy up and get her advise I took a brief crack at it myself. Where to start? Google of course!

I did a little search and found SO many sites offering different types of services. Some were free and some were not. The free ones were of course the worst! To be honest I was a bit overwhelmed. I think it was this overwhelming feeling that finally made me pick up the phone.

While on the phone we both looked at Suzy's site (I'd really like to point you to it but I'm not sure how she would feel about that) and we looked at Design our Day's site. It really was a no-brainer to go with the same company she did. Their designs are so nice and after a little encouragement I was finding my way around and creating my own site in just a few minutes.

I kind of wish I could give you some reviews of other places to create wedding web sites but this is the only one I know and I'm really happy with it.

My instructions that follow are with this site in mind. I suggest you at least take a look at it by clicking here before you make your final decision about which site to finally use. I think you'll really like it!

btw - I had a few questions that Suzy couldn't answer and sent an email to their support address not expecting to hear anything and the owner of the company wrote me right back! How nice is that!!

How to build wedding web sites step-by-step

OK, I'm finally getting the how exactly to set up your wedding website.

1. Go to your the wedding designer website: www.designourday.com

2. First you need to choose a package. I started with the free trial but after I found out how easy this was I signed up for the Gold Package.

3. The first thing you'll see after you enter your name and the date of the big day, you get to choose a design for your site. Don't worry too much about this you can always change your mind later.

4. Now you are at your Account page. At this point you can already preview your site. When I saw this I was already impressed with myself!! This is also where you will come every time you log in to update your site.

5. At this point I had fun clicking through all the options and seeing what I could add. I really loved all the options. I could add a page introduce all the people in my wedding party. I added a quiz about my husband and I and we got so many responses.

6. Feel free to go crazy at this point. Add as much or as little as you want. If you signed up for the free plan you've got 14 days to continue and finish the design at which point you need to upgrade.

7. A very cool thing you can do after have a real account is make you're very own domain name. Try to find a domain name that includes your two names like jennylovesbilly.com or something even more fun.

8. Everything was so simple I feel like I don't really have anything specific further to describe. If you have ANY questions just send a mail to support. They were really supportive!

That's all there is to it people. So much fun to set up and sooooo helpful. We got so many compliments and afterwards we posted some of our pictures on the site so even those that couldn't make it could enjoy the event.

I truly hope this was helpful. I plan on making some more pages here to continue sharing my experience and hopefully helping you with your wedding planning!!
