Many couples enter into marriage having no clue what they are really getting into. Everything seems great while they are dating and then boom, the married life takes hold and things begin to get a little rocky. They think, it's okay, we really have everything under control, or I won't say anything I don't want to make him/her upset. Well, this is not what marriage is about, but it is what happens when initial problems in a relationship are not addressed.

The problem is that too many couples allow their marriage problems to fester for too long. The longer they fester the worse things get until one day one of the two of you reaches their breaking point, and when you do you will start calling around to marriage counselors to stop divorce. To save marriage most people will do anything, but maybe this should have been thought about earlier, way earlier. Why waste precious years away at each other's throats when it would have been a much easier plan to seek out marriage advice before getting married. While you are still in the honeymoon phase of your relationship is the perfect time to take a good hard look at your relationship and iron out some of the little kinks. Don't wait until you are on the brink of divorce and bring to the table 20 years of bitterness and anger and expect some poor counselor to fix it all for you in a few short sessions. I think that we all know that the more time you take in doing the damage the more work it takes to fix it.

This is why the new trend is towards pre-marriage counseling, getting the counseling to become a better couple before you begin instead of a bitter couple down the road.
