Cakes & Flowers

Brides in Bloom have been succesful at incorporating the beauty and skill of floral design into the creation of wedding cakes that are as pleasant to the eye as to the tongue.

Their creations are amazingly tasty with a modern finish of textured creamy icing and decorated with gorgeous fresh flowers the look is classic, very natural and wonderfully lush!

This picture depicts a great way to use the wedding cupcake idea and give it an additional twist that adds both taste and elegance to your big day.

Valentine's Wedding Cake

Valentine's Day is considered by many people as the most romantic day of the year. Keeping this in mind, it makes perfect sense that this romantic day sees a huge number of weddings.

I have included a picture of a gorgeous Valentine's style wedding cake. There are many other options that can be done as well. I have seen cakes where each of the tiers are done in a heart shape. This can be done quite tastefully so as to not detract from the feel of the wedding. Keepin in mind there is no limit to the creativity you can apply on your Valentine's Wedding Cake.

Happy Valentine's Day

The Victorian Wedding Reception

The following excerpt can be found in its original format at: http://www.literary-liaisons.com/article004.html. It is a historical perspective on what a Victorian reception would have been like.

The reception was traditionally a breakfast, in response to the early hour for weddings. It was an English custom to have a ceremony at noon with the breakfast following thirty minutes later at the bride's house. At the home, the couple greeted the guests and accepted congratulations. In the Eastern United States, they modeled their ceremonies after the English. The West tended to copy the East especially when it came to Boston and New York society.

A splendidly decorated corner was set apart in the bride's house for greeting her guests. The first to congratulate the couple were the parents. After which they would stand by. In early Victorian times, the maid of honor (or first bridesmaid) stood close to the bride to help her. Bridesmaids stood to the left and right of the couple, while ushers help guide the guests. Etiquette dictated that guests address the bride first, unless they were only acquainted with the groom, in which case they congratulated the groom and were then introduced to the bride. The bride was never congratulated, as it was implied that the honor was conferred upon her in marrying the groom.

Guests were served standing, although the bridal party was served seated. If the house was big enough, or the weather pleasant enough, tables and chairs could be set up for the visitors. There was no entertainment at the wedding, unless it was a sumptuous evening event, at which time there was dancing. It was generally understood that the company needed nothing to entertain them, as they the honor came in the attendance of the wedding itself.

In the earlier Victorian times, there were typically three different wedding cakes--one ornate cake, and two smaller ones for the groom and bride. The cake was cut and boxed and handed out to guests when they left the event. Traditionally the wedding cake was a dark, rich fruitcake with ornate white frostings of scrolls, orange blossoms, etc.. The bride and groom's cakes were not as nearly as intricate. Hers was white cake, his dark. It was divided into as many pieces as there were attendants and often favors were baked inside for good luck. every charm had its own significance.

This tradition fell into disfavor with the century, as the bridesmaids did not want to ruin their gloves searching for the favor. The cake the bride cut was not eaten, rather it was packed away for the 25th wedding anniversary!

Unique Idea for Wedding Cake

Taken from Magic Wand Weddings.com

Get rid of the rice and the typical cake and choose a hole in one idea.

What does local law enforcement have in common with your wedding reception? Both will have a great pleasurable snack, of glazed doughnuts. Why not have your wedding cake for your reception entirely made out of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Generally speaking, the doughnut is enjoyed in the morning. However, there are many times at wedding reception themes, office party themes, birthday parties, bridal shower parties and other important events are more suited for a doughnut cake, instead of traditional cake, because they are much more creative and fun.

"People today are becoming much more imaginative and exciting when making plans for their specific event", says Michelle Richards from MagicWand Weddings. "We get a lot of questions almost everyday at MagicWand, from brides-to-be asking how they can add more individuality and creativity to their great day. We have heard the cakes have been used at the end of the wedding, all the way to the actual wedding cake itself. There are even doughnut favors that come in individual boxes. There are even people who like to have a truck arrive at the end of the day to pass out doughnuts", Richards says.

On average 1 to 2 doughnuts per guest attending is a decent estimation. InStyle Weddings Magazine seems to have started this new trend in Spring 2001. They listed the glazed doughnuts as a special creation for any wedding or occasion.

So, go for an idea that scores a whole in one, doughnut style. It is not a crime to be creative, just ask your local police department - your guest's will definetely love it.

Surfing Cake

While there are many different kinds of cakes out there, I believe novelty cakes can be the most fun. Take this one for example, which can be found at novelty-cakes.net.

This is perfect way to show one of your life's passions. Hopefully both member of the couple would be surfing fans, otherwise there might be some serious discontent on the part of the bride.

This cake is another wonderful example of a way you can make your wedding more unique and memorable for you and your guests. If you think about it, can you remember very many cakes from your friends' weddings? Make your cake unique by personalizing it for you.
