And, since research has shown women gain strength when lifting weights without bulking up, why shouldn't you lift weights? Read on through the rest of this lens for more information on weight lifting for women's health.

Lifting Weights Benefits Womens Health

Don't sweat it - just lift weights!

Lifting weights includes free weights and machines like this cable pull down machine.Weight training for women has many major health benefits, as mentioned above. For starters, as women get older their risk for developing osteoporosis increases significantly. Lifting weights can decrease that risk by providing just the sort of load-bearing exercise that encourages the body to strengthen bones and increase their density.

And, weight lifting has many other benefits. Lifting decreases your risk of other diseases like heart disease and diabetes. And, it also decreases your risk of injury during sports, or just doing normal things like cleaning house and chasing after your kids... not to mention being able to keep up with the kids as they grow older and become more active.

Also, forget the old myth that women bulk up when they lift; it's just not true. All those photos you have seen of female bodybuilders don't tell the whole story; the fact is, only women who take steroids get that big. Genetically, most women are predisposed to develop lean muscles that are denser, yet maintain a similar size. So, lifting will firm you up, but not bulk you up. Good news for those of you who want tone and shape, not bulk.

So, feel free to lift weights to your heart's content! It's good for you, and you'll also like the way it makes you look and feel, too.
