The Weight Watchers points system is a diet plan developed by weight watchers, where those interested in developing healthier eating habits to lose weight can track what they eat using a points system. It is also referred to as the flex plan, where dieters can eat the foods they want by limiting themselves to only a certain number of points each day.Although most foods and meals can be found in one of the many books offered by Weight Watchers, they have also developed an equation that makes it possible to determine the number of points for various dishes and foods. All the equation requires is the number of calories, grams of fat, and grams of dietary fiber in the food, and the point value can be determined.
How to Calculate Foods on the Weight Watchers Points System
Points = number of calories / 50 + grams of fat/12 - grams of dietary fiber/5)
When the grams of dietary fiber are over 4, the number 4 is always used. The answer is always an integer, with fractional values being rounded to the nearest point.
No foods are off limits with this plan, you can still enjoy you favorites like
oven-fried chicken, stir fry dishes, and even cookies and other amazing desserts.
The Weight Watchers points system includes free
meetings with membership, so those on the program can discuss favorite recipes, struggles with weight loss, or even just chat with those who are going through the weight loss path as well. Although it is not necessary to join the program while following the diet plan, Weight Watchers offers free recipes, online access, various reference guides, and one of the strongest support groups to help those interested in losing weight.
