Weight Watchers Food Points
Is it possible to eat the same types of food as the rest of your family and still manage to lose weight? After checking out all of the "popular diets," I was beginning to wonder.
Then a friend reminded me about Weight Watchers. To be honest, I was concentrating so hard on learning more about all the modern quick-fix fad diets everyone was talking about that I hadn't given this old tried-and-true method of weight loss much thought.
So I clicked into their online program to learn more (you can click on the link to check it out as well). What I discovered was amazing!
Sure, I wanted to lose weight, but I also didn't want to go on some crazy eating plan that contained so many restrictions that I'd be forced to cook myself completely separate meals than the rest of my family. That was too much work!
What I needed was a diet that let me eat real food while I learned how to better balance my food desires and my weight. The Weight Watchers Points System seemed to be it - and it was!
Once I decided to try the Weight Watchers Plan, all I had to do was decide which one: The Flex Plan which gives you a set number of food points to consume each day, or the Core Plan, which allows you to eat as much as you want off of a specific food list with no daily point counting (except for the 35 bonus points you get to use each week on foods not on the approved list).
The choice of plans is a really great feature of Weight Watchers. Click here to see the details of both plans and decide which one might be right for your style.
Within minutes I was on my way to a new sleeker me. By answering a few easy questions online, I learned how many food points I could eat each day.
For me, the number was 19. Uh-oh, I thought, that doesn't sound like a lot. Then I clicked onto their detailed food list to see how many food points my favorites were worth.
That's when my eating education really began. It was 10 am and I had already consumed 7 of my 19 daily points allowance, and I'd only had a bowl of cereal and a half a donut! Ok, so now you know why I needed this program!
Finding out your point allocation is a pretty cool process. You can see how it would work for you right here. (Click on the link.)
Believe me when I say, that that donut seems to lose some of its interest once you learn that it'll take 5 of your precious daily points to consume!
Some of the greatest lessons I've learned using the Weight Watchers Points systems for the foods I eat is how to better control my portions, and how to integrate more nutritional foods into my daily diet.
The food plan has shown me what foods I can eat more of to feel full and satisfied all day long. And, I still have the flexibility to take the kids out for ice cream if I really want to, so I don't really feel like I'm on a diet most of the time.
It hasn't always been easy though. Losing weight rarely is. Keeping track of those food points can get to be a real pain.
There were times when I felt like my entire life revolved around food and nothing else. But, once I got the hang of it and learned the point value of most of my favorite foods, it got a lot easier to keep track.
In the end, I think the point system was probably one of the easiest ways I could have kept track of what I ate in order to lose the weight.
So you may be wondering, did I lose any weight with the Weight Watchers Points Plan? You bet! I'm already down two pants sizes and it's only been a couple of weeks.
And the best part is I'm not cranky, or lethargic and I can basically eat whatever foods I want - as long as I don't go over my 19 food points!
