If you have been struggling with your weight, I understand exactly how you feel. It can be a depressing and disappointing experience, right?
What most people fail to understand is that being overweight is a health problem. And here is one staggering statistic that most people want to ignore. And that is that 66% of adults in the United States are overweight or obese. What this means is that 1 out of every 3 adults in the U.S. are obese. Not only is that a huge number but it is also a huge health problem.
Most of us probably know at least one person who qualifies as obese, 30 to 40 pounds or more overweight. The fact is, that any weight loss problem isn't just about getting into the "latest diet fad". Because we all know that diets don't work and are doomed to failure, it's a good idea to stay away from them.

You and I both know that the truth is that no human being on the face of the earth wants to change. Change means pain and so we don't want to do it. But don't kid yourself. Change you must if you want to lose weight.

Here are four things that will help you out to lose weight:
1. I know you don't want to hear this, but regular physical exercise is necessary to any weight loss program. Look, I'm not asking you to train like an Olympic athlete. I'm just saying that if you get out and walk just 30 minutes a day you'll be surprised at not only how much better you feel, but also the excess weight will start to come off.
2. You've also heard this before too. You have to watch all the bad stuff that you eat. Now this doesn't mean that you have to diet. What it means is that you must consciously give some thought to what you are eating. Take control over what you decide to eat.
3. This is probably one of the most difficult parts of losing weight. You have to think long term. I know what you're saying. We're living in a world of "instant gratification" and that's just the way things are. Well, guess what. You have to change your attitude if you want to successfully lose weight. That's just the way it is. Most of us didn't gain our excess pounds overnight so don't expect that you're going to lose them in a hurry.
4. A very important part of losing weight that many people completely overlook is to get the support of other people in your life. Family, friends and co-workers can be extremely important by giving you encouragement and helping you to stay on track. Don't be afraid to tell people that you are on a weight loss program and that you can use their help. When you tell other people about what you're doing they will be less inclined to ask you to have that second helping of meat and potatoes for dinner or that banana split twice a week.

Chances are that if you are like most people, and you probably are, you don't want to hear about the four things I mentioned above. What you're really looking for is something that will make you lose weight, lose it fast and cause you no pain. Am I right? Of course I am.
Like I told you before, I know what you're thinking. We all want the easy way out. So, if you're not going to take my advice above, at least I can tell you the five worst possible diets you can use. After that it's all up to you. (But of course you know that already, don't you?)
Diets That Are Guaranteed Not To Work Long Term.
1. Don't even think about any diet that tells you to eliminate entire food groups. For example, the grapefruit diet, the veggie diet, the cabbage soup diet and many other fad low-carb diets. Believe me when I tell you, that in order to get the proper nutrition everyday you must eat from a variety of different food groups. And this just isn't me talking, because this comes directly from the American Medical Association.
All restrictive diets such as these are doomed to failure and here's why.
It won't take you long to realize that eating the same boring foods everyday is a real drag. And because you won't enjoy this, you'll quit!
2. Have you ever known anyone that has gone on one of those crazy "Detox" diets? Or maybe you have heard of The Martha Vineyard Diet Detox, The Hallelujah Diet or the one known as the Master Cleanse. Diets such as these usually call for extreme procedures like hormone injections, liver flushes, colonics and body cleanses.
Chief medical correspondent for the Discovery Channel, Pamela Peeke, MD says, "All these flushes and cleanses are pure nonsense, unnecessary and there is no scientific basis for these recommendations. Dr. Peeke continues, "Your body is well equipped with organs, such as the liver and kidneys, and the immune system, to rid itself of potential toxins and does an excellent job of cleansing itself without needing flushes or cleanses."
3. Miracle food diets that are no miracle at all. Where most people go wrong is believing that somewhere out there in the great diet world they will find a food or group of foods that if eaten at a certain time of day or eaten together will produce great weight loss. Most doctors agree that this type of diet is a bad idea. Why? Because these diets keep your body out of balance and this is not healthy for you.
4. Have you tried fasting in order to lose weight? The fact is, most people don't realize that fasting can actually make you gain weight. You heard me right! What happens dear dieter is that your internal calorie burning machine, your metabolism, slows down when you eat less. It's Nature's way of protecting your body because it thinks food is scarce and so it holds on tight to every last calorie it can.
Even worse is what happens next. When you go back to your regular eating routine you get body slammed----POW. You can actually gain more weigh because your body is still holding on tight to those calories because it thinks that you are starving. So, in my opinion, fasting is not a good option if you're serious about losing weight. Sorry!
5. The old saying, "That if it sounds too good to be true it usually is", definitely is true when it comes to weight lose. If your weight loss program claims to have some "secret" that other plans don't have or they make claims that are contrary to sound medical advice, stay away from these "experts".
Finding A Weight Loss Program That Is Right For You
The way that many people choose a weight loss program is wrong and can be dangerous. For example, just the other day when I was standing in the check-out line in the grocery store, I heard two women talking. One said to the other, "Oh, Brenda you should really call Barbara because she looks fantastic. She has been on the so and so diet for two months. If it works for her I'm sure it'll work for you too". I'm sure you agree, that because a friend recommends something to you there is a good chance that you will try what they are suggesting to you.
But There Is One Big Problem
One size doesn't fit all. And this is a very important fact to remember. Because what worked for Barbara doesn't mean that it will work for you. Weight loss can be a tricky thing. So if you get nothing else from this article, probably the best advice I can give you is, "The best diet for you is the one that is the safest and is one that you can stick to long term". Another way of saying this is that the best weight loss program for you just might be to eat a healthy variety of foods in moderation. Plus, don't forget your exercise program.

When you think about it, the best "diet" is not to diet at all.
You should forget about "dieting" and think more about ways to satisfy your hunger for fewer calories. By eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein you can help manage your appetite and stick to your weight loss program. Now it's time for you to enjoy successful weight loss.
