Avoid All-Or-Nothing New Years Resolutions
Inspiration to stick with it through thick and thin
Don't think of the New Year as the beginning of yet another diet... think of it as a time to re-focus on healthy living. Every day is a challenge. The key to weight loss isn't "following the rules" perfectly. It's all about perseverence, and understanding that everyone runs into roadblocks... some people turn around and go back the way they came, others (us!) climb over them and keep going. Here's a little inspiration for those times when you feel like giving up.
- Bootcamp Buddies
- HUGE Weight Watchers support forum. Frequent posts, many categorized topics.
- Meet Denise
- She lost 50 pounds with Weight Watchers! Check out her "before" and "after" pics.
- About.com Weight Loss Quotes
- These famous quotes aren't directly referring to weight loss, but they're definitely applicable.
- My Lunchbox
- Great idea! This Australian mom has been on Weight Watchers since she had her baby, documenting her progress with a blog. She even has pictures of tubs of butter equal to her weight loss. Be sure to check it out!
10 Easy 1-Point Snacks
Pre-Packaged Picks
Grab an easy snack without condemning yourself to a dinner of lettuce and... more lettuce. Here are ten pre-packaged 1-point snacks you can get at the grocery store.1. Jello Sugar-Free Pudding Cup
Great when you need a chocolate fix.
2. Jolly Time Minis Healthy Pop Kettle Corn (94% fat free)
I love these! Other brands are starting to copy the mini-bag idea.
3. Weight Watchers Smart Ones fudge bar
Most fat-free or sugar-free fudgesicles are just 1 point, so cheaper generic brands are fine too.
4. Hostess Strawberry Fig Newton
Personally, I never snack on these because I can't eat just one. But it's great for someone who actually has self control and wants something sweet once in awhile.
5. Miss Meringue Sugar Free Meringue Cookies
You can have 17 of these for 1 point! If you like meringue, definitely give these a try. I think Costco sells something similar in their bakery.
6. General Mills Fruit Roll-Up
I loved Fruit Roll-Ups when I was a kid! They're still yummy. Also known as fruit leather - but that really doesn't sound very appetizing.
7. Fat Free Ball Park or Oscar Meyer turkey frank
Oscar Meyer's fat free beef frank is also 1 point.
8. Quaker Chocolate or Caramel Rice Cakes
I know, I know.. "rice cakes" sound so diet-y. But they're flavored, and you can eat 7 of them for 1 point!
9. Lucerne Fat Free Frozen Yogurt Bars
For when you crave ice cream on a stick.
10. Trader Joe's Granny Smith Variety Apple Rings
You can have 14 rings for one point, and they're actually really good.
Fast Food Point Values
For those days you can't resist the grease.
- McDonald's
- Did you know a McDonald's cheeseburger has fewer points than a Chicken McGrill? And a 6-piece McNuggets has fewer points than most of the sandwiches? Sure, an Extra Value Meal is always bad for you, but when you have the facts you can at least reduce the damage.
Think McDonald's food and weight loss are mutually exclusive? Read about a man who challenged the Supersize Me mentality (fast food = bad!) and lost 40 pounds in 50 days by making healthy fast food choices. - Jack in the Box
- Try the Chicken Fajita Pita! It's yummy, pretty big, and only 7 points. And avoid their milkshakes (a medium strawberry-banana shake will set you back 21 points). Try McDonald's instead, they use low-fat softserve so their shakes have about 1/3 fewer points.
- Wendy's
- Try a small chili for 3.5 points! Overall, the sandwiches at Wendy's have fewer points than the ones at Jack in the Box, but that may be because Wendy's has fewer to choose from and Jack in the Box has added more "gourmet" burgers with extra cheese, bacon, and high-calorie sauces.
More to come!
Cold?
Nice 'n' Warm Low-Point Recipes
- Turkey and Corn Chili
- 3 Points
This 30-minute Rachael Ray recipe gets rave reviews from Food Network users. On a sidenote, a nice thing about the Food Network is their recipe printing options: You can print out the whole page, or choose smaller versions that fit onto 3x5 or 4x6 notecards. - Apple Pie
- 4 Points
A regular piece of apple pie will run about 9 points. The nice people at Weight Watchers modified a typical recipe, cutting the points by more than half. - Baked Potato Soup
- 5 Points
This recipe is great but be careful, the points value goes up if you add the "optional" bacon bits and cheese. Which I probably would.
