Welcome to Squidoo - Day One!
w00t!
From your Community Organizer on Squidoo, welcome!
*cheering*
When I joined Squidoo nearly six years ago, it was a quickly growing community of 30,000 lenses. Today, we have over a million lenses and are growing at over 2000 new lenses every day!
Squidoo was designed as a platform for sharing specific, focused, action-oriented ideas. Over time, our small and dedicated team has added new tools based on feedback from users and research from readers. But what we've added is just the tip of the iceberg. The real power comes from our creative users and the amazing ways they're using Squidoo.
When you're just getting started with Squidoo, the information found on our website can be overwhelming. To help you get a better understanding of what it means to build a lens and be a lensmaster, we've developed seven days worth of e-mails (and lenses!) to teach you the basics. Each day you will receive a few short paragraphs and a list of links that describe how you can use the resources developed by our team and dedicated lensmasters to share your ideas, promote yourself and your business, and make more money.
Today, take some time to get familiar with Squidoo. Or if you're feeling ambitious, jump right in!

Get familiar with your dashboard
Your dashboard is the control panel of your Squidoo account. Here you'll find dozens of useful and important links and resources. What's on each tab?
- SquidU Forum
- Our peer-driven forum where you can get answers on non-technical questions such as building and promoting your lens. Stop by here to introduce yourself and get a lens critique.
- Daily Digest
- This is the front cover, so to say, and gives you quick glance at some important things that are happening with your lenses.
- My Lenses
- This is a list of all your lenses! If this list gets to be long once you start creating all those great lenses, you can add labels to sort them and categorize them. Put your mouse over a lens title to see more options drop down below it.
- My Stats
- Here you will find statistics about your lenses, such as traffic, referrals, and commissions earned. You can also go to a lens on your My Lenses tab, mouseover it, and click "stats" to get to this page.
- My Comments
- When someone leaves a comment on one of your lenses, if you have the approval setting on your guestbook or duel module to "ask me first," your comments waiting for approval will show up here. You can approve them, delete them, or ban lensmasters who are logged in if they spam you. (Icky!)
- My Groups
- Here is where you can manage your groups. Groups are collections of lenses that revolve around a specific theme, and anyone can create a group.
- My Profile
- This is a very important tab where you'll find all your account information. Become familiar with the info found here. This is where you'll add your PayPal address (so you can get paid) and change global settings for your account.
- My Favorites
- Favoriting a lens is like giving it a special bookmark. When you want to find it later, click here! You can also get SquidCasts (short Twitter-like blurbs lensmasters post) from your favorite lenses and lensmasters on this page.

Head over to the SquidU Forum
SquidU, short for Squid University, is our learning center for Squidoo. Here you'll find a variety of great stuff such as:
- Our peer-moderated forum where you can introduce yourself, ask questions, get a critique of your lens, and learn from others.
- Our lensmaster-driven help center where SquidStaff and the Citizen Squid Mentors will answer questions and point you in the right direction.
- Our SquidU Review blog, where we post lensmaster profiles, reviews of great stuff, and new information about changes at Squidoo
What can Squidoo do for you?
Instead of me telling you, check out these great lenses on what Squidoo is and what you can do with it. They were designed by lensmasters just like you. (They were new once too!)
Who is this Kimberly girl?
I'm Kimberly, Squidoo's Community Organizer, and part my job is to grow our community of users from the inside out.
I help:
- distribute answers to frequently asked questions
- write articles to help users get more out of Squidoo
- coordinate groups of users for special outreach projects.
What does that mean to you? When your questions get forwarded to me, they're more than just answered for you. They're put into our messaging to other users so everyone can benefit. Cool.
