Now celebrating it's 25th anniversary, BLADE RUNNER is a classic among science fiction films.  Directed by Ridley Scott, the story is loosely-based on Philip K. Dick's novel DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP?

Considered "cyberpunk" at the time, its dystopian vision of the future, as designed by futurist Syd Mead, has influenced countless movies that were produced in the years since it was released.

Ridley Scott's vision of the future seemed a bit too dark and gritty for audiences when it was first released. And viewers who were used to Harrison Ford as heroes Han Solo and Indiana Jones seemed stunned by his turn as the down-beaten police assassin Rick Deckard. However it's production design and darker future vision have since gone on to become benchmarks of science fiction film-making.

With this five DVD set, viewers can see multiple versions of the movie, from the working print to the "final cut."

Blade Runner IS the best movie ever!

Lalo 3d says:

blade runner is a majestic film, and a master film of how to use light and shadows and the last movie to use old fashion special fx and the best movie ever

Fred says:

No other movie compares...Blade Runner is the best.

carocc says:

Last night I finally had the time to watch the newly released DVD that included the original theatrical version of the film. The Four-Disc Collector's Edition does include not only the US and International theatrical releases but also the Director's Cut and the Final Cut. My favorite is still the theatrical cuts because Harrison Ford's voice overs add a great deal to the movie. I am fairly sure Ridley Scott removed the Harrison Ford voice overs because it forces the viewer to focus more on the visuals, but the visuals are just too stunning to be lost while listening to the Harrison Ford's narrative. Without the narrative there is less connection to make up the story.

It's good but not the best movie ever.

Orthia says:

As much as I loved the original cut when it was first released, I really loved the Director's Cut more. But how many cuts does a movie need? I'm not quite sure about the Final Cut...

Was Deckard intended to be a Replicant right from the start?

Yeah, Ridley meant for it all along

No way, it's something that didn't come into play until all those re-edits were done

I saw it the other year projected from a DVD projector on a big screen with surround sound in a friends living room. It still has power and the effects are of the best model and matt work ever. The Vangelis soundtrack has some of the most observed atmospheric compositions in film ever and are very listenable on their own. Try sticking the tracks on your ipod and walking around Tokyo center to live the movie.

For a Sci-Fi Action movie it has meaning, there are messages for us to contemplate - life, death, creation, love
Roy Batty in the end may have more human than Deckard!
