The Butterfly Effect (2004)
The Butterfly Effect is a fantasy/drama movie about a young man who finds a way to travel back through time and alter his own past. The phrase 'butterfly effect' refers to the idea that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear. Just like that, the small changes the main character Evan Treborn made to his past in order to improve his life had unexpected and terrible consequences.
Butterfly Effect was directed and written by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber. The cast is Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart, Eric Stoltz, and others. It's sure to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout its 113 minutes runtime!

Amazon Price: $8.49 (as of 10/11/2008)
Butterfly Effect is a thrilling, inventive and very disturbing movie. It involves alternate realities and time travel, which will make your head spin. This director's cut also has a different, much better (and darker!) ending than the cinema version. Watch it if you think you can handle the chilling ride!

I thought it was a great movie! And any others like this, the second one that came out was ok, but not as original as the first, I thought.

I loved this movie and have seen it several times...though I don't care for the director's cut. I personally do not feel OK about the only way for him to help everyone was to never have existed. Nice guys don't grow on trees. The theatrical ending is much better!

It was the other way round for me. I saw the DVD and had no idea a happy ending existed until later.

I liked it. I didn't see the director's cut version and think I'll stay away from it after reading about the ending.

Alban says:
It was a great movie to me, though quite dark and devastating. Everything the guy does to make his life better, makes his situation worse. That is how it is with us, isn't it? We can't fix anything. We try, but nothing gets better. It only gets worse, unless we rely on true Authority.

I thought it was a fine movie - time-travel, which I write as well as read and see, is one of my favorite genres...

I've not seen it yet. But it sounds really cool. I think I'll put it in my Netflix queue.

Butterfly Effect is no good!
Adam_Chandler says:
It's almost as lame as Ashton Kutcher himself. What a tool! The concept is kind of cool, I guess. The concept of the movie, I mean. Not the concept of Ashton Kutcher.

Loved the movie...loved the dvd too (well, except for the director's cut). I do wish they had decided to go with the happy ending, where Evan meets Kayleigh on a busy Manhattan street. They almost went that way with the ending but ended up walking in separate directions...though I like to think the next time it happens, one of them will say hi to the other! :) Posted September 04, 2008 |
