As the film opens, Wall-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) is a lonely robot. He is the last of a cadre of robots whose duty is to clean a heavily-polluted planet Earth while humanity takes refuge on a spaceship. Wall-E spends his days collecting knick-knacks as he cleans and longs for companionship. After centuries, his wish comes true when EVE, another robot, arrives from humanity's spaceship to see if the planet is safe. Wall-E returns with EVE to the ship. The events that follow mix comedy with the exploration of thought-provoking themes such as loneliness and the need for relationships.
