Mel brook's masterpiece and a glorious parody of most classic horror flicks. From the use of the Black and White to the great characters, everything in this movie is made to make you laugh!
I never get tired of seen it and i hope to see the musical one day, either live or on dvd! (yes, there's a musical!)

One of the most brilliant comedies of all time and in my opinion that's the masterpiece of mel brooks production. The characters, the tunes, the jokes : everything is perfect and no stereotypes of the genres have been spared.

Neither one. This is just an urban legend started by someone and it sounded good enough to be perpetuated. There is no real reason why, other than Mel Brooks was poking fun at an old cinematic villain gag - where the same strange thing would happen every time the character would appear to add to their mystique. It appears that the speaking of Frau Blucher's name was disturbing to horses.
There WAS a General of that name from which a saying arose that referred to "go at it like General Blucher" meaning approaching a task relentlessly and successfully. This is the CLOSEST to being even partially true.
