General Knowledge

Stuff you probably already know

Werewolves are believed to be mythological creatures/humans with the ability to shape shift into wolves or wolf-like creatures. The ways in which this can occur is either by a curse, purposely to themselves sometimes by witchcraft, by being bitten by another werewolf, or after being placed under a curse. The transformation usually occurs in old tales during a full moon.

The usual understanding of what a werewolf looks like is usually a human body sometimes covered in fur with a wolf head, in most cases the human body is a muscular bigger male body. Werewolves usually attain a number of super abilities with their new werewolf looks, these abilities usually include super sensitive senses like wolves which include super hearing and smell in addition they are usually given super strength and super speed.

The original Werewolf

Where Werewolves Began

Explaining the origin of werewolves would be like explaining the first ever monkey or describing where humans began. I do however have what is believed to be the first ever sighting of a werewolf thanks to the members.tripod.com/alam25/index.htm website. It states that the first ever recorded sighting of a werewolf took place in 1591 that is over 400 years ago if your not that good with math. It says that a few people cornered a large wolf they set their dogs upon it and stabbed it with sharp objects but the wolf just stood their and when the humans were tiring the wolf stood up and revealed himself to be a middle aged man from the same village known as Peter Stubbe.

Known as a sorcerer the man confessed after being tortured to committing many murders. In wolf form he continued to commit many murders, the man was finally sentenced to death by having his flesh was pulled off with red-hot pincer, his arms and legs were broken and he was finally decapitated. His carcass was burned to ashes.

Info

Weaknesses

The believed objects to keep away the werewolves would be mistletoe, rye and Mountain ash. One Belgian superstition states that no house was safe unless under the shade of a mountain ash. Also wolfsbane is believed to get rid of those pesty werewolves.

One of the big things that would harm a werewolf though was silver however that fact did not come into the story until the 19th century where novelists started to add the silver bullet being the werewolves vulnerability.

One more thing that is believed to take down a werewolf is the infamous vampire. It has been an age old question, who would win in a battle between vampire and werewolf? it has even been confronted in movies like Van Helsing or Underworld.

Werewolf Sightings

Following are some documented cases of actual werewolf sightings. How can this many people be wrong?

1964 - There was a sighting in Wisconsin just two miles from the first ever recorded werewolf sighting. Dennis Fewless just after midnight, on his way home from work, his headlights caught an animal running across the road in front of him. It was large, 400 to 500 pounds, and dark brown. He said it was 7 to 8 feet tall. He returned the next day and could see where something had entered the cornfield, but no other evidence was found. The Bray Road Beast has been sighted several times.

1972 - number of residents of Ohio allegedly saw a werewolf-like creature. Some people reported encountering a six to eight-foot tall creature that a witness described as "human, with an oversized, wolf-like head, and an elongated nose." Another said it "had huge, hairy feet, fangs, and it ran from side to side, like a caveman in the movies."

1989 - Lorianne Endrizzi was driving on Bray Road, a half a mile away from the above encounter, where she thought it was a person kneeling in a hunched position at the edge of the road. She slowed down and to her surprise, the figure stared at her at no more then six feet across the passenger side of the car. The figure was covered with grayish brown hair, with big fangs and pointed ears. Scarlett Sankay stated to the reporter "His face was long and had a snout, like a wolf the figure's eyes glowed in the darkness and they were a yellowish-gold color. The arms were really a kind of strange; jointed like a man or woman would be. He was holding his hands with his palms upward. The arms were muscular 'like a man who had worked out a little bit.' The backed legs looked like they were behind him, like a person kneeling." The sighting lasted about 45 seconds and she had no idea what the creature could have been until she saw an illustration at the library of a werewolf.

2005 - In the book Hunt for the Skinwalker, Scientist Dr. Colm Kelleher and reporter George Knapp wrote about a scientific investigation of a ranch in Northeastern Utah where paranormal activity was taking place. In some cases, residents reported strange "misshapen" wolf-like creatures that would attack them or mutilate livestock, and in some cases would not respond to bullets. Some researchers tie the strange circles in the ground and, in particular, these wolf creatures, to ancient Navajo witchcraft practices. Many of the Navajo call these tribal witches "Skinwalkers". Sightings of these creatures persist throughout the Navajo Nation, although few are willing to talk about it. Below is the actual book if you wish to find out more and know the whole story.
