How the WhiteFence Index Tool Works

The WhiteFence Index utilizes both Google Maps and Web charts to gather interactive data for national and city utility averages. Here is a brief breakdown of each feature:

Map
An interactive map powered by Google provides icons for each city. Clicking on the icon produces the unique data for that particular city.

Price Graph
This Web chart shows price averages over a period between August 2007 and January 2008.

Price Categories
A table displaying the city and national averages for phone, TV, Internet, electricity and natural gas, plus the lowest and highest national averages for each service.

WhiteFence Index Tool Methodology

WhiteFence customers are the driving force behind the data used for the index tool. No census data is used to determine price averages.

Phone, TV and Internet prices are pulled from hundreds of thousands of monthly orders on WhiteFence sites, which helps also determine the most popular packages and services ordered each day.

Gathering data for electricity and natural gas is slightly more involved. Usage history for each category was recorded using data directly from the electricity and natural gas companies that WhiteFence has existing relationships with. The averages do vary some dependent on usage, season and type of service.
