What's All the Fuss About Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are found in many natural foods - from berries to broccoli, and even coffee and chocolate! They offer super protection for the body against all types of diseases and problems - especially those caused by free radicals.

Free radicals are molecules which have split in an odd way, leaving an unpaired electron floating around. These free radicals are unstable, and they can react with other compounds, trying to get back their lost electron.

Free radicals tend to attack the nearest stable molecule in an attempt to take an electron from it. This causes that molecule to become a free radical, which will then attack other molecules.

Antioxidants can actually give one of their electrons to a free radical, ending the cycle of reaction! The great thing about antioxidants is that they are stable, even if they lose an electron.
