What does iPod stand for?

Since many seem to wonder (and others seem to think they know) where the term iPod came from we thought we'd grace you with the truth so the matter can finally be put to rest.

It all started when electronic developer David Roth of Apple went out for a drink with some guys from the office one night. After the fifth round of tequila or so, David got up to use the restroom. He found the stalls extremely dirty and unusable so he quietly left out the back door to find a suitable restroom. He walked for blocks hoping to stumble upon a gas station or fast food restaurant but none were in sight. Finally, in desperation he ducked down the next alleyway hoping to find a private place wear he could relieve himself. Sure enough a night patrol officer noticed the man and headed in his direction. The cop found him ...making a "mess" to say the least and cuffed him.

At the station, he noticed a young boy listening to a small portable radio. The boy had apparently rigged the wheel from an RC car to the front of the small portable device. While David waited to be finger printed, he observed that the boy turned the wheel to adjust the radio station.

After about 40 minutes of paper work, questioning and finger printing, David was dropped into the drunk tank to sober up. The cell was small. It had an over sized steel toilet bowl which was cleaner than the toilet back at the bar, a wooden plank for a bed, one half roll of toilet paper and a half eaten bagel on a piece of wax paper neatly placed under the toilet. It took David a moment to notice the tiny 2 inch television screen built into the wall which displayed instructions for inmates on it. David took the roll of toilet paper and placed it under his head as he lay down on the wooden plank bed. He thought about his friends back at the bar, about his wife at home wondering where he was and finally he thought about the little boy with the portable radio with the RC wheel on it and seeing the screen on the wall again David bore a brilliant idea. The next morning he was released and headed straight to work. Tired and disheveled, he stormed in the board room where a meeting was already in progress and demanded the floor. He pitched the members of the board an idea for a music device that would revolutionize the way people listened to music. His idea was met with enthusiasm. His project was put into production right away. There was just one question... what do we name this new device? Dave thought long and hard over the events of the evening that led him to concoct the idea. He remembered where it all started and created an acronym for a name in no time - I Poop On Dumpsters

At least that's the way the story was told to me in a dark saloon just a couple minutes before closing time.
