Hemp or Marijuana

Actually, Cannabis sativa L is the technical term used when refering to both. Although hemp and marijuana originate from the same plant genus, the strains of the plant differ in many ways. Learn the facts on hemp and why this plant is the cream of the crop!

Fact

A 1988 ruling from the United States Department Of Justice concluded that "In practical terms, marijana cannot induce a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity"

When Hemp Was Hip

The concept and use of cannabis sativa L is not a new one. In fact, for centuries, hemp was the ideal agricultural crop, capable of producing thousands of products vital to everyday living. Such products included clothing, medicine, lighting oil, paper, food and ropes.

The Phoenicians famed as sailors and traders traveled the Mediterranean coast using sails made from hemp. Shipping charts, logs and maps also made their way into the hands of famous historical people like Christopher Columbus.

Seafaring exploits could not be possible without hemp. The stalk was used to create anchor ropes, cargo nets and fishing nets.

China, one of the first to cultivate hemp, used the bast fibers to spin yarn and cloth. The dead were even shrouded in hemp cloth and tied with hemp ropes. The Chinese also made paper and medicine.

As the centuries rolled by and new land was uncovered, it wasn't long before the Americas were also littered with products made from hemp. Even the American flag was proudly produced using hemp.

Isn't it ironic that hemp encouraged and guided the discovery of America, yet many Americans loath and disapprove of hemp?

Fact

The USA is the world's biggest consumer of prescription opioids. Opioids come from the opium poppy plant. It is a NARCOTIC, hemp is NOT! Overdose can induce coma and seisures, yet poppy seeds are generously sprinkled worldwide in salads because they contain healthy oils.

Ironic!

So, What's the Difference?

Industrial grade hemp is what we refer to as the type of cannabis used to make consumer products. It contains only minute amounts of the substance known as delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or for short, THC. The component that produces a high when smoking marijuana.

In Canada, the legal amount allowed in the seeds is 0.3% which is miniscule compared to the 20% in most pot varieties. The physical makeup of the species determine it's usefullness.

Hemp grown simply for it's ability to make you "feel good" is of no value to the consumer market. The plant is too delicate, eliminating it as an ideal agricultural candidate for most goods.
Industrial hemp however, is strong and can be used to creath a wealth of products.

Fact

Hemp Has More Than 20,000 Uses.

This is My Opinion

take it for what it's worth...

Many think that legalizing hemp will compromise the drug enforcment laws. How can anyone put so much time and effort opposing something that can bring such great benefits to the people and planet, when there are thousands upon thousands of people dying from frivolous prescription abuse and alcohol poisoning?

There is no doubt that marijuana should be controlled, but why should we limit it's usefullness when other, more dangerous narcotics are being freely and legally prescribed? Hemp has more than 20,000 uses! Yes, some people use it in their bongs, but others use it for fuel, food, clothes, skin care, hair care, and paper.

That's just to name a few. Can legal prescription drugs do all that, other than kill you of course? Nope, but that's just my opinion! Legalize it, I say, but then again, it is in my country!

Annual Causes of Deaths in U.S.

Illicit Drug Use 17,000

That is a lot of really interesting information on hemp. I think it would be a great organic crop, but are there any restrictions on growing it? I think I understand you to say it is illegal.
