What's so different about "Stress: Beyond Coping?"
"Stress: Beyond Coping" uses a unique concept to teach the seven (7) lifestyle factors that are crucial for effective stress management. These 7 factors are illustrated in the STRESS MANAGEMENT PYRAMID:
P - PRAYER/SPIRITUAL INTEGRATION: The importance of a healthy spiritual relationship is one of the hottest topics in stress management research today. Why? Does prayer really work? Does faith result in real, scientifically measurable benefits to our health and well-being? Do those who actively practice their faith live longer or better than those who don't? The answers have astounded the science community -- will they suprise you, too? Take an in-depth look at stress -- from God's perspective -- in the "Stress: Beyond Coping" seminar.
R - RELAXATION: Do you have problems relaxing or getting to sleep when stress levels get too high? There are entire stress management seminars that do nothing but teach people how to relax. The "Stress: Beyond Coping" seminar offers the 10 best tips on how to manage stress by relaxing, including the most powerful relaxation tip of all -- one that our customers have called "life-changing."
E - EXERCISE: Scientists have discovered a "stress paradox" about exercise: even though it's stressful, exercise is actually good for our physical and mental health. Exercise can even protect us from other kinds of harmful stress. The "Stress: Beyond Coping" seminar explains why and how to use exercise as a stress management tool.
V - VIEWPOINT: Mark Twain once said, "My life has been plagued with many difficulties, most of which never happened." It's been estimated that 95% of the things that people worry about never even happen! Does this "phantom stress" ever get the better of you? The "Stress: Beyond Coping" seminar cites today's leading neuroscientists to describe the power of a positive viewpoint in managing up to 100% of the stress we experience.
E - EATING HEALTHFULLY: Confused by all the conflicting nutritional advice given today? The "Stress: Beyond Coping" seminar cuts through the maze and offers time-honored, scientifically-proven principles for healthful eating. Learn how to use the Nutrition Rocket for optimum health and wellness.
N - NEIGHBORLY LOVE: Research shows that individuals with close, supportive relationships (spouses, siblings, friends) have fewer serious illnesses and live longer than those with no close social ties -- even if they eat unhealthfully and never exercise! The "Stress: Beyond Coping" seminar describes the power in relationships to keep us well. Learn how to manage stress through loving relationships by learning and practicing good communication skills, the Parity Principle, the Golden Rule (the relationship principle found in every major religion in the world today), good conflict management principles, the healing art of forgiveness, and much more.
T - TIME MANAGEMENT: Good organization gives us significant control over the amount and degree of stress we experience, and good time management helps us accomplish the goals we consider to be the most important in life. The "Stress: Beyond Coping" seminar reveals the time management/goal setting system that was worth $25,000 to Charles Schwab, the multi-billionare industrialist and investor. In addition, you will learn how to use SMART goals and a PDAL (Prioritizd Daily Action List) to keep your life and time on track.
What topics are covered in the Stress: Beyond Coping stress management seminar?
Session 1
The Concorde Factor
Session 1 is called The Concorde Factor. Based on up-to-date research, this session describes our best medical understanding of stress and its negative effects on the body. This gives a scientifically sound foundation for the rest of the seminar.Session 1 describes the body's response to stress, then describes the link between chronic stress and disease. The unique concept used to describe this link is called the Stress Tank. Some common stressors that fill up our Stress Tanks on a daily basis include:
- Stress at work or losing a job
- Financial trouble
- Conflict in relationships
- Lots of changes (either good or bad) in our personal lives
- Fighting a long term illness for oneself or a loved one
- Constantly worrying about the future, or constantly regretting the past, and
- Dealing with a steady stream of day-to-day hassles and irritations
Do any of these sound familiar to you?
If stress levels overflow past the danger point, various kinds of HARM can result. For example, we can experience:
H - mild to severe breakdowns to our HEALTH. Medical researchers today estimate that between 60-90% of visits to doctors are stress-related.1 Stress has been linked to a wide range of illnesses, including heart disease, asthma, diabetes, mental illness, high blood pressure, ulcers, as well as the common cold and the flu.
A - ACCIDENT proneness. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health estimates that 60-80% of industrial accidents are stress-related.
R - mild to severe breakdowns in our RELATIONSHIPS. During stressful times, we tend to focus exclusively on our own needs and not to notice anyone else's. Over time, this pattern can damage every relationship we have.
M - MENTAL ILLNESS. Dr. John Ratey, Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, says that long term stress "can lead to full-blown mental disorders such as anxiety and depression, as well as high blood pressure, heart problems, and cancer. Chronic stress can even tear at the architecture of the brain."
Fortunately, there is a PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE on our Stress Tanks that can PREVENT stress from reaching the danger point.
This pressure relief valve is kept fully open when seven key lifestyle factors are practiced daily.
Session 1 starts at the bottom, giving a series of practical tips on how to manage stress through RELAXATION.
(By the way, there are several stress management programs out there that focus exclusively on relaxation techniques. For "Stress: Beyond Coping," relaxation is only a starting point!)
Session 2
The Lighthouse Factor
Session 2 is called the Lighthouse Factor, and discusses two more components of the Stress Management Pyramid: EXERCISE and TIME MANAGEMENT & ORGANIZATION.This session will teach you exactly how exercise helps manage your stress, and gives practical tips on the type of exercise, frequency, intensity and duration that will be most beneficial for stress management.
The time management and organization section reveals a wealth of practical guidance to help you learn how to PREVENT DECISIONAL OVERLOAD and have a BALANCED LIFE.
We even give you the time management system that so valuable to industrialist Charles Schwab that he paid $25,000 for it!
Our objective in teaching time management is to help you to learn how to use your time wisely and achieve your most important GOALS.
Session 3
The Guardrail Factor
It covers two of the most powerful stress management strategies that we know about: VIEWPOINT and SPIRITUAL INTEGRATION.
This session takes an inside look at your brain to discover just how your viewpoint interprets and controls your stress levels. You will learn what kinds of messages your brain creates and sends in order to turn on the stress response, and how the proper viewpoint can override these messages to turn off the stress response when it is not needed.
You will learn how the proper viewpoint can transform negative, stress-inducing beliefs Into beliefs that actually reduce your stress and create opportunities for personal growth and fulfillment.
Session 3 also describes the tremendous mental and physical health benefits gained from active participation in one's religious faith and having a strong spiritual life. Multiple research studies are cited to describe the wide range of health effects of religion and spirituality. Session 3 will teach you the best ways to manage stress through prayer and spiritual centering.
Session 4
The Amigo Factor
Session 4 covers the last 2 components of the Stress Management Pyramid: HEALTHY EATING and LOVING RELATIONSHIPS.What we eat, how we eat, and when we eat all make a huge impact on our physical and mental health. This is why Nutrition is referred to as the "foundation" of a good stress management plan. The "Stress Beyond Coping" seminar offers an in-depth overview of how to eat healthy, based on guidance given by the U.S. Surgeon General. This includes specifics on:
- what fats to eat and what fats to avoid;
- the importance of complex carbohydrates and fiber from plant and whole grain sources;
- and why tobacco, alcohol and stress don't mix.
The nutritional guidance offered in the "Stress: Beyond Coping" seminar is centered around a new and unique eating model called the NUTRITION ROCKET. This model will explain in detail what foods to eat and in what proportions for optimum health.
Session 4 is called the Amigo Factor because it discusses the power of relationships to keep us well. Research shows that poor relationships can be very stressful, but healthy, loving relationships have a dramatic impact our mental health and happiness. Loving relationships even promote longevity.
The "Stress Beyond Coping" seminar discusses the most exciting research findings related to relationships and health, then gives guidance and dozens of practical tips on how to develop strong and relationships. This includes a unique concept, developed by and available only in "Stress: Beyond Coping" programs, called the PARITY PRINCIPLE. Understanding the Parity Principle will give you remarkable control over many conflict situations.
Session 5
The Good Samaritan Factor
Session 5 is called the Good Samaritan Factor and teaches more time-tested, biblically based principles for building healthy relationships.These include:
- Learning the principles of CONFLICT MANAGEMENT;
- Learning GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS;
- And learning how to RELATE HEALTHFULLY TO ANGER.
- You will also learn the 5 steps of FORGIVENESS;
- And when others have hurt you, how to know when the HEALING PROCESS has begun.
Finally, you will be introduced to the 10 MOST POWERFUL STRESS-REDUCING BELIEFS that we know about. We call these the heavy duty stress absorbers, because using these beliefs can absorb the impact that stressful experiences can have on us.
All 10 stress absorbing beliefs have been validated by the most advanced scientific research, but they are also time-honored, biblical principles which describe the tremendous value God places on each of us.
In the rest of sessions 5 and 6, you learn how to filter every stressful situation through these 10 powerful, stress-reducing beliefs.
Session 6
The Good Weather Factor
Session 6 is called The Good Weather Factor, because it teaches people how to carry their own good weather with them all the time. Session 6 covers the last of the 10 MOST POWERFUL STRESS REDUCING BELIEFS.You will learn how to be content under all circumstances by creating a GRATITUDE ZONE.
You will learn how to KEEP PROBLEMS IN PERSPECTIVE, and HOW TO FIND MEANING in all situations.
The ultimate goal of the "Stress: Beyond Coping" series is to teach you, using spiritual principles that have been validated through medical research and by real life experience, how to manage your stress and FIND PEACE.
