In Celebration Of Seth's Birthday... Tell Us What To Do On YOUR Birthday!

In a recent blog post, Seth posed a question that has captured the attention of many a Squidoo lensmaster! One of the main goals of Squidoo is to raise money for charity, so what could fellow lensmasters do to help you celebrate your birthday AND raise awareness for the work of Squidoo sponsored charities?

What would you like for others to do each year on your birthday that would also promote the good works of the Squidoo charities? I love the idea of long term committment to the charities that we care about, so I have a great big wish for my birthday.

I would like to see if we could create a parade of lensmasters who would be willing to show up at the charity headquarters of each and every Squidoo charity... ALL ON THE SAME DAY!

Imagine the good that could happen if the entire community of Squidoo showed up at YOUR Charity Headquarters... the volunteer connections and opportunities could be incredible!

Let's probe a little deeper into the mind of a Giant who loves to organize things, and see if we can turn that idea into a brand new tradition for Squidoo lensmasters.

A Charity Parade Is Easier To Accomplish Than You Might Think...

The Tools Are In Place, All You Need To Do Is To Commit To Using Them!

Squidoo has taught me a lot about project managment, and the main thing is to remember to keep it simple!

So, I've built a toolbar, a calendar and a lens... all you need to do is read the lens, download the toolbar, then remember to use it one time a week. The toolbar has a message box so I can communicate with you about parade events and details.

Imagine how you would feel if you knew the ENTIRE COMMUNITY of Squidoo was coming to your house for a visit!

The Squidoo Charities Open House Tour is simply a quiet parade of devoted lensmasters who will visit the charity headquarters lens of the charity of the week. The trick is for all of us to visit the same charity on the same day.

Will you help me spread the word, and begin a new tradition at Squidoo?
The tour will take place each and every Friday, beginning on my birthday. Simply check the calendar to see who we are visiting, then take a few minutes to drop by that charities headquarters and learn more about their committment to help others.

All you need to do is read their lens, sign their guest book, volunteer, donate money, or simply say "Hello!" Then, to make it twice as much fun... remind your friends to do the same!

Keep Track Of The Tour On Connie's Google Calendar

Squidoo is filled with lensmasters who love to help raise money for charity, specifically those who are on the official roster of Squidoo charities. Imagine the miracles that could happen for each of those charities if EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of Squidoo came for a visit to their charity headquarters... all on the same day!

The purpose of the tour is to see if we can't make that happen! I invite you to join me on the Squidoo Charities Open House Tour, and see if we can't make a world of difference for those who have worked so hard to develop the charities that do so much good for so many people.

The Blog Post

I Think Seth's Mention Of The Columbus Day Parade Was The Subconscious Spark For The Idea Of A Parade Of Lensmasters!

"On July 4, birthday of the USA, we're supposed to blow off fireworks, eat hot dogs and buy a Chevrolet.

On Columbus Day, birthday of an early imperialist, we're supposed to shop and march in a parade.

On Martin Luther King Jr. day, marvelously, we're supposed to participate in a national day of service.

So, what should we do on your birthday?

With all due respect to Hallmark, the idea of sending people cards and presents on their birthday seems both selfish and small-minded. It seems to me that we could think bigger.

On the birthday of your company or brand, what would you like your customers to do?

On your birthday, what should your friends do? Let's say you have a shoe buying fetish. Perhaps on your birthday, your friends could buy shoes--for themselves, not for you. Share the joy, right? Or perhaps buy shoes for their friends?

On my birthday, it would make me really happy if people started a project, launched an idea or engaged in a difficult interaction that made something good happen. Make a difference day.

What's your story?"
