What to Do When an iPhone App Crashes

Here, we'll take a look at what to do if your iPhone crashes. Thankfully, this is a problem that is less prominent with the newer iOS 5 and above, and easier to fix. The process for fixing a 4S app crash is the same as previous versions of the iPhone, so we're covering both!

What to Do When an iPhone App Crashes

reboot your iPhoneSometimes, an app will "freeze" and it usually has nothing to do with iOS itself. Thankfully, it's as easy as doing a manual reboot.

To reboot your iPhone, simply hold down the power button on the top right of the phone for a few seconds. You'll be prompted with a red on-screen slider. Slide it and the phone will shut down.

Once the screen has turned off completely, hold down the same power button again, and the phone will reboot.

Now, your app should be back to normal again.

If Your iPhone App Still Crashes...

Sounds like it's a more serious problem if the above tactic didn't reset your app back to normal. Try the following:
  • Remove the app (press and hold the icon until it "shivers", then press the X) and re-install it.
  • Restore your iPhone, if all else fails. This can be done by visiting iTunes after synching your iPhone to your computer, and visiting the "Summary" tab. This should be a last ditch effort, as it will wipe all of the saved data on your phone.
