What Will Happen In 2012?

December 21, 2012. A date to remember. It could mean perils beyond our imagination or just a reset on our clocks and calenders that will cause no more than a mere whimper. Whatever it turns out to be, there's one that will remain certain. There will be absolute panic. And you know this is true. Why? Because just the thought of there being a possibility that the world that we know it, from the park you go to study every Friday afternoon, to deli you go to purchase a pastrami sub sandwich, ending, well it just terrifies the sh*t out of anyone.

So, how do we know that something major or 'catastrophic' will occur on that exact date? Well, if you have read early, there are just absolutely countless sources of information basically confirming that it will happen on December 21, 2012. One of the most obvious sources would be the famous Mayan Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, which is the most accepted proof for the doomsday scenario. But today's modern day Mayans have a different view on how the calender is interpreted. Most of them say that calender ending is just a sign of a New Age or the ending of this cycle will correspond to a global "consciousness shift". Either way you look at it, it just remains to be seen.

Alright, enough will the 'factual stuffs'. We know why you are really here, well kinda anyway. You want to know what kinds of disasters are possible or most likely to happen at that year. Okay, well shall we start with. Ah, a meteoroid or asteroid strike. The most famous and one of the most feared ways to die from. Well, what kind of damage are we talking about here? Lets create a scenario. Lets say a meteoroid or asteroid the size of Manhattan, New York was heading for the United States. What kind of devastating results are we talking about? An impact of that size would mean sure extinction for humans and most other life forms on the surface of the Earth. It would be equal to 1,053,000,000 megatons of TNT going off at the same time. It just a horrible yet instant way to die.

Up next, the supervolcano. Did you know that Yellowstone National Park is actually the worlds largest supervolcano? How else do you think Old Faithful the famous geyser keeps erupting every 45-125 minutes? So what kind of devastating possibilities will it result in? Well, for one thing, if there would be any extinction to mankind, it would be a slow process. Don't take it the wrong way, there would be instantaneous casualties in the millions, but to actually cause worldwide peril would take a few years. The ash from the eruption would encircle the earth in one to two months, thus causing a global chill down. That would mean vegetation from farming that supports human food supply would be gone. That, in turn, would mean famine and hunger around the world. It wouldn't take long before millions of people dying would turn into the billions. It would be the next 'Black Plague'.

Though, there are countless of other disasters, for the sake of this lens, will just add a last scenario. And this scenario would be the most likely to occur of all the major catastrophes. Omnicide or threat the to humanity by humanity itself. Yes, nuclear war most likely. It doesn't take much to make leaders of nuclear armed countries angry with it other. And when they do, it can most likely result in itchy trigger fingers. This would definitely mean the end to mankind, in short. Radiation would finish what the huge blasts didn't do.

If you have a million dollars and plenty of construction workers, build an underground bunker. You need to make sure that this bunker can with stand at least a nuclear detonation. On the other hand, if your like the rest of us that don't have wealth, well, it will really depend on your actions. As 2012 steady creeps closer, the threats that may associate with it will become more and more clear.
